Induction

What are some experiences that you have had with being induced? What method(s) did your doctor(s) use and how long was labor? I am possibly being induced some time in this upcoming week and would like to know what to look forward to. I am a bit nervous cause this is my first baby.

An epidural is an IV that they insert into your lower back that administers anaesthesia to numb your lower body. This is strictly for pain relief purposes. Remember though that you meed to decide early on whether you want to have one or not because once your are so far along in labor they will no longer be able to give you one for the baby's safety. Also, depending on your OB and the hospital you will be giving birth at, there may be pain relief alternatives available to you if the idea of an epidural makes you uneasy. If this is the case you can ask your OB, and if they are unsure you can also call or visit the hospital and someone there should be able to answer any questions you have about any alternatives that might be available to you.

What exactly does the epidural do? My mother and my aunt say it makes you feel numb. Does that mean its like a muscle relaxer?

If you are induced, I highly encourage you to get an epidural. With my first I was induced and really wanted to do things the natural way and didn't get an epidural. I ended up being in labor for 14 hr, and when I was pushing there were some complications so they sliced me open down there and pulled my daughter out with no pain meds or anything. This was extremely painful and I really wished I had decided to get an epidural just because of how long my labor lasted and then the cut and stitching at the end. I am currently 26+1 with my second daughter and this time I will be induced as well, but I will also be opting for the epidural.

Oh. Alright. Well my mom said that she was induced with me, I was three weeks late and she had no changes. But with my, I will be 39 weeks on thurs and my midwife is encouraging an induction do to my endometriosis, my spine, and my hips. Also, he is pretty big right now and my belly is tearing badly. I'm nervous because he is my first child and I was wanting to go natural but the pain is getting to be too mich.

I had to be induced with my first child. I was scared an very nervous with it being my first. I was dialated to a 1 for 3 months. When the time came to be induced i still wasn't dialating so the gave medicine and used something like a tampon to help thin my cervix out so id dialate. Then once i was dialated they popped my water and i was in Labour for 6 hours tops.
