late period, am I pregnant?

Hi,
My periods are usually like clockwork, and since January I have been getting them between the 3rd and 5th of every month (i am generally on a 30 day cycle). My last period was on June 3rd, and I went to the middle east from the states for about 3 weeks. Around the 7th I was a little sick. I got back the 23rd to the States. I had unprotected sex with my husband on July 2nd and July 4th. Both these times, he did not finish and only finished quite some time later (sorry for the details). I am now 12 days late. I took a HPT yesterday morning and it came back negative. I have been feeling like it it going to come any day now for the past week, but it hasn't. I have no other symptoms execpt maybe for sore nippIes (not breasts).  just wanted to know if this happened to anyone before and whether I should trust the pregnancy test result or not. If not, then when should I be trying again?

You ovulate about 10-14 days after the start of your period. So if you're wondering when to try for a baby you could always get an ovulation predictor. My advice is to not try so hard for a baby, just enjoy having a sexy time and let mother nature decide when you get pregnant. I say this because myself and so many others have been caught up in the mindset of getting pregnant and you start Googling symptoms and wondering all the time if you're pregnant and because you're so obsessed with it your brain starts to trick you into thinking you're pregnant, and you get symptoms and stuff, its crazy. Butttttt the day you forget about trying to

You had sex round about when your period would be due, and you cannot get pregnant when you are due your period. This is because ovulation has already occurred and ovulation occurs mid cycle and you get your period AFTER ovulation, not the other way around.

At 12 days late, you would be showing on a test if you were pregnant. Most likely scenario is that travelling and being sick has messed with your cycle and so is delaying your period. Maybe see your doctor, and they can run a blood test just to make sure you're not pregnant (which is unlikely since you're testing negative) and they can maybe give you something to induce your period.

Thanks Carly,

I'm just worried that if the travel did mess up my cycle, then maybe everything was delayed and I could have been ovulating around the time we had sex. I do remember seeing a clear sticky discharge around the time I was supposed to be ovulating though....
I am so frustrated because I feel like it's going to come but it still hasnt yet...

It is possible that you could have ovulated late.

If you've had a negative test so late it's very doubtful you would be pregnant. Like Carly said you ovulate 'usually' 14 days BEFORE your next cycle, as ovulation is what causes a menstural cycle - not the other way. If you have doubts still though, you can see your doctor and have blood testing done to know for sure.

I have been in a similar situation.  My last period was June 4 and since July 6 ive been feeling like my period is going to start but it hadn't.  I took a test July 13 (which would make me 9 days late) and it was negative and I retested today (July 15) now 11days late and I got a faint blue line so I'm retesting tomorrow to be sure.  If no period wait a few days and dlretest.  I was told HCG doubles every 48 hours. Good luck

Thanks for your comments everyone. Dollface, just to clarify, you had sex the day before your period was due using the pullout method and you were able to see a faint line?
