Iv meds during labor

Who has had experience with it? What kind of meds did you have? It's something im thinking about doing instead of the epidural. Did they let you get up and walk around after having the meds or we're you still stuck in bed? Also, was your baby effected by the meds? My mom was given demerol and it apparently made me very lethargic when I was born, I wouldn't cry or do anything! How was your experience??

I forgot what its called but it was a lifesaver before I got the epidural, its not super strong but it helps take some of the pain of contractions away! I had it with all my babies.. and they all came out fine and very alert. :)

I was given Demerol and my son came out perfectly fine. They have more info on dosage now so it is probably more safe now than when you were born. Also through the IV it will help relieve pain in your whole body( but won't take pain away) so they probably won't let you walk around. I will be getting Demerol when I can't take the pain anymore because I want to walk around.
