Jaundice? Worried :/

They ran a blood test on him today nd it came back too high. They told me to put him in the sun but not much out today, if its doesn't get better he will be hospitalized. :/  They also said he wasn't gaining any weight, they suggested I give him a little formula after breastfeeding. He's been asleep all day nd has ate 3 maybe 4 times today, I'm getting really worried. What can you tell me about jaundice? Am I worrying too much?

my daughter had it and the doc would flick her foot to wake her before feedings. try making baby less comfortable while feeding sounds rude but it will help. the sunlight thing is important

Babys that have jaundice tend to sleep a lot try to stimulate him before you feed him.

It exists. And worrying about him eating is a common fear. Just follow what they say then. But if you do want to keep supply and continue try to pump when he eats to make up for it.

My doctor told me to give him formula after breastfeeding but then he falls asleep nd won't wake up to eat any more, so id rather know he's eating enough. Nd I've read such thing as breastfeeding jaundice.

A lot of babies sleep a lot in the early weeks. If I recall, unless their levels are above 20 you should continue to BF.  Don't worry, I'm sure he's getting more than enough. They eat very little early on because their stomachs are so small, keep offering him the breast as often as possible. Supplementing can reduce your own supply and make it where it's much harder to feed him. Trust yourself. He'll be ok

It was at a 17 :/ how bad is that? He's been sleeping alooot nd hard to wake up. I've recently breast fed him so I thought maybe he wasn't getting enough, so I'm giving him formula. I don't like how sleepy he is. Its hard to wake him up nd eat nd he'll go right back to sleep.

I agree, you want him to eat eat eat. Try stripping him down and rubbing his back, feet and stomach to wake him. Do you by chance know what his levels were at?
