Just got back from Emergency room

So here is my story from the day.

I woke up. felt pretty good overall, gagged a little in the AM felt a bit nauseated but no vomitting.  Went to work, worked for a couple hours no issue. Then in the late AM, I started having some lower back pain like nerve pain.  Started off week then it got a bit worst than i was finding I was seizing up.  So I went to lay down for a bit, which helped and I got back up.  I went to go up a set of stairs, and my legs pretty much stopped working.  Bad pinching pain, had to lower myself down and had a hard time getting up.

Work sends me home.  I decide to go to the emergency room since Im really worried, I couldnt walk for a while after the stairs incident and I had a bad limp when I could.. So I get to the place, and I let triage know Im 12 weeks pregnant and this is what happen.  They basically put me at the bottom of the list..  We waited 4 hours to get in and watched numerous people coming in two hours after us get in first.. It was really annoying..

So I see a doctor and they go over that I am not really coming in with concerns about miscarriage but since I am pregnant they will do an ultrasound anyways as a rountine..   So the back pain they said is probably what htye called Mechanical muscle pain, which is the result of inflammation of tissue or small tears in tissue due to the natural stretching.... I have had it before but never to the point where I temporary couldnt walk.  He gave me some advice on how to help it and felt around my abdomen and back to make sure there was no tenderness.

So they are training a new doctor on the u/s machine and let me know thats its not the best quality one (its portable used mainly in looking for internal bleeds, signs of ectopic etc) so we might not see a whole lot.  It was an external ultrasound with an empty bladder as well..

They do the ultrasound and right away I knew what I was looking at.  I could see the gestational sac and there it was, a good size shapely fetal pole with a head, a body, and little claw arms.  And There was a HEARTBEAT.. It was so beautiful just flickering there..    The doctor said the baby look really good and the heart beat was strong and fast.  Because the machine was not the normal one, the machine couldnt do measurements and didnt show a HB rate at this point.

I am just relieved that there is a good size baby and a heart beat! I have my 2nd prenatal tomorrow and I am going to demand he make the referral for hte actual sizing ultrasound asap.  After being through a long ultrasound while they searched and searched and couldnt find anything, it was so awesome to have an external one with an empty bladder on a poor quality machine and be able to find everything so quickly and it to be so clear.  It definitely looked comparable to other pictures i have looked for 12 weeks but of course at this point I have no measurements.

I'm glad you got to see the baby and heartbeat. Its such a wonderful feeling!! I've noticed I have back pain too. Its mostly on the right side where the baby is. Pinching my nerves already. My mom told me that she had a lot of back pain when she was pregnant with me.

By the end of the time at the emergency room, the back pain was alot better.. Doctor said it will probably be something that will be coming and going and I can take tylenol for the pain...  Its not really the pain that bothers me, its the being incapacitated part...    Its still there today but its not like yesterday, just have to be careful in the way I bend.. he said no lifting at all for now and to avoid excessive trips up stairs (which is an issue at work a bit but ill make it work.. I think i have a higher than normal pain tolerance... either that or I just dont like medication..  I would take if its a constant pain but seeing as resting tends to make it go away even if it ends up coming back evenually, i think its better to rest it than to take tylenol and keep charging at it.

I also have been having very bad back thigh and hip pains since forever... It began that early in pregnancy i forget how many weeks. Still sometimes i cant walk and have to lean up against something or just fall gently to the floor. It feels like someone is sticking a knife in my back and twisting it.
So far the only response i have gotten from my midwife is thats normal, Im thinking because his head is so far down. Some times it feelins like im carrying a bowling ball inbetween my knees....
Good luck with future pains..
