The problem with that thinking is that labor feels entirely different than other pain. I had a friend who shattered her ankle and didn't even cry out but who had trouble handling the contractions in early labor. That's the way I always thought of it too until I went through it with my daughter. The better prepared you are and the more support you have, the more likely you are to succeed.
Hope you have a high pain tolerance! Haha. A lot of women who want to go natural end up not doing it cause its a lot worse than they expected. I don't like the idea of an epidural, but I know I'm gonna need one lol. Good luck to you though!
@Petalou
Yes my midwife supports natural birth. She doesn't deliver at birthing centers due to their unpredictable status in our state. But she is all for natural birth. I had to be put on pitocen because my water had been broken for days with no contractions and was very low so she was worried about the baby. Because of my water being broken so long there was a high risk for infection so my daughter had to stay a few days in the nicu when she developed a low grade fever. However my midwife rocks because she allowed me the choice. I cools have stayed my labor artificially when my water broke but she gave me the choice to go home and wait it out.
She is not anti epidural but sure does respect the mother's choice and does her best to give you your ideal birth.
Well in case things dont work as planed you will get rushed into a hospital ... but if you go to the hospital they will most likely do what they want and not what's best for the baby . You need to keep in mimd rhat the natural way of having a baby is all natural so the chances you will need a hospital are very small
I watched it n I'm from UK I thought it was absolutely crazy!! Didn't realise it was like that in USA, from my experience of being induced with syntocin, yes it effin hurt but my midwife offered me pethidine which is a lil injection in ur leg n it helped so much, iv always been freaked out by epidurals, im sure if u wanted pain relief other than epidural they would give u some, nobody even mentioned an epidural when I was in labour? Hope this helps
I do .. but im still really scared I know its the most painful thing in the world. But I think its worth it all and they say that after you see your little one you forget all the pain
Yes I do .. but Im still really scared but the pain wont last long its worth it
@lilseamonkey I agree with you, thats why I deciding to still deliver in a hospital just in case natural birth doesn't go as plan
@pinklie do you have a high tolerance for pain?
Omg I watched it and switched to a all natural clinic .. there midwifes and they do take medicare . Im having a water birth
I watched it and I had my mind made up that I was going all natural and I was terrified of pitocin for a long time because of that movie. It's An amazing documentary and if I ever have any more children I want to go natural. But because I developed hypertension I had to be induced, pitocin isn't that scary when you're being watched carefully. And honestly if I hadn't had the epidural, I wouldn't have progressed and ended up in a c section. Just keep your mind open that anything is possible And don't be too stubborn when your birth plan ends up not going the way you want
@netta90 did you give birth in a hospital?
Yes! I watched it. I'm going all natural this time too! I did with my first also. I learned alot watching it
I think there are some birthing centers that do take insurance .. I am in the middle of trying to find one too. I don't want to be induced or use the epidural and I am not sure if my current doctors office believes in this.
Doulamommy does your midwife believe in natural ? Maybe I should look into finding a midwife. How is that working out for you?
I'm now considering in checking out a natural birthing center and hopefully my insurance will cover it!
Looked into one for a friend but she couldn't afford it. Intersted in pine this time but still considering. My midwife only delivers at hospitals.
Has anyone looked into natural birthing centers or has experienced giving birth in a place like this ?
@doulamommy thanks! Looking on amazon for it now! (:
Riki lake also had a book out that it's fantastic about her experience making the documentary. I think it's called "your best birth". I highly recommend it.
