Labor/Pregnancy Question

I am 39 weeks 5 days preg. I am having bad menstrual like cramps and horrible back pains. At my last appt, I was 3cm dilated and told that my cervix was very, very thin. When is it time to go to the hospial? I am having trouble counting contractions because the pain is constant but the very sharp pains are about 6-8 mins apart. My mother keeps saying I will know when it is time because I wont be able to talk but is it possible that my pains wont be that bad but still be a sign to go in?

Absolutely that's possible. Everybody's pain tolerance is high. I have a very high one and didn't have any discomfort until like the last 30 min and I was able to do with no pain meds and it was pretty easy. I would just either call your dr or go in. What's the worst you're not in labor?
