Labor without pain medication.

Has anyone ever given birth without any pain meds? I want to try this time without the drugs, no epidural, spinal etc. Now this is my 3rd. My DD was born vaginally and i had an epidural, then my 2nd i ended up with a csection because i failed to dilate so they pumped me with drugs and when my son was born i could tell the meds had affected him. Now this time i would like to go all natural! Can anyone share their story please? Good or bad i would like to read them!

Thank you :)

Childbirth should be something memorable, that you remember and cherish for a lifetime, not soon want to forget because of the nitemares that came out of it.

Thank you! i love to read stories about natural child birth! im trying to mentally prepare myself. When i had my csection, i freaked out because i was strapped down to the table! i was screaming in my head and just kept saying "its almost over, its almost over..." by the time they rolled me back into my room i still couldnt feel my legs and i was given so much drugs that my baby was groggy and slept more than normal :(
i hated being hooked up to all those monitors, the IV, pain meds etc...so this time i want to be mobile and be able to stand in the shower!

I have had 2 natural births so far, and I am planning on having another one with my third.

With my first baby, I didn't really know what to expect, what was really painful (in regards to child brith), or what was tolerable.  I found that if I focused on my breathing during my contractions, they weren't that bad.  I was in labour for almost 12 hours with Keenan, and believe it or not, I slept in between contractions, and never gave it much thought, I let my body do the work so I had the energy to push my baby out when the time came.  The actual labour was painful, and the only part I really remember that was painful was when I ripped.  I mean, they had to get the plastic surgeon in the stitch me back together, I had an ice pack in my underwear for at least a week afterward!  Once Keenan was born, the pain was gone.  He was here and that is all that mattered.  I do remember when the surgeon came in to stitch me up, he was going to give me a freezing needle and I asked him if it was going to hurt (I really HATE needles) and he laughed at me..."you just gave birth naturally and you are worried about a little needle?"  I will never forget that.

With my second baby, I was in labour for 7 hours this time.  Once again I just slept inbetween my contractions and concentrated on my breathing to help me stay focused and calm.  I remember my OB came in at 11:20 am and said that he had to do an emergancy c-section with another lady and to see if I could "hold on" with the pushing until he got back.... he said 20 minutes and I was already 9 cm.  My OB came back into the room 11:59am and told me to push.... I said make sure you are ready... I gave one push, and was exhausted.  I held my body back from pushing for so long that I couldn't do it and asked for a breather.... my OB informed me that the head was already out.  I gave one more push and Jacob was born at 12:01 pm.

When you are at your appointments with your OB, he or she will ask you what your birth plan is.  You can simply explain to them that you would like to try a natural birth, but are open to meds if you need them.  The doctors will always try to make it the way the that you intended!

good luck with the birth of your baby!

I almost went natural for my second baby. I had planned for an epidural but things happened so fast I could not get one. My contractions speed up VERY quickly, and by the time I got to the hopsital (which is only 15-20 min. away) I was having them every minute or minute and a half, I was 10 cm when they checked me and I was in so much pain that I could not speak, all I could do was lie on my side and squeeze the bed shut my eyes and wait for a moment of relief. I had to wait for my Dr. to get there as he had to drive in so I had to wait almost an hour which was not fun! I got lucky and right before I was going to push they got me a spinal, so I felt everything but the pushing but I was so ready she was out in 3 pushes, so if I had known how quick it would have been I would not have gotten the spinal. Anyway, it was extremely painful but I survived, I was not prepared and had not done any of the breathing classes, so maybe that would have helped, I tried to breath and I was in too much pain too.......

My son was natural. The best thing I did was take a Bradley method class. Or any naturally focus childbirth class. Educate yourself on your options and their side effects and make the best choice for you and your family.

Ive had two girls both natural first labor was 21hrs 2nd one was 9hrs I wont like it hurts by the time you get to push its almost a relief. I would say the contractions twords the end were the worse part but after you they put ur baby in ur arms u forget all the pain. Its comp. worth it :) You can always try going natural and if you need meds just ask no one will think less of you.

No pain meds for me with all 3 of my births and i am hoping to do the same this time round. I want say it was fun but i just never got to the point where i thought i couldnt handle it anymore, I did however spend alot of time in the shower i found it the heated water gave me some relief. Good luck :)

Both of my girls were natural, just take it one contraction at a time.

I agree with the other ladies, I went into labor naturally with my son, got to 8cms with no pain medicine, and would've continued on if he hadn't gone into distress, and I ended up with an emergency c-section. Tell them you're going to try to do it natural, and not to ask if you want pain medicine unless you ask for it, that really helps, good luck hun!

Both of my daughters were natural births, and my son who was stillborn was induced and I had an epidural.  Obviously that labor was bad, but the epidural only helped in the beginning.  I fell asleep and didn't get a refresher before I started to deliver.  It was agony....

I had an epidural with my first but I am now expecting my fifth baby n since the second baby I havent had any pain meds. Altough with my second one I didnt know what to expect when it came to pain so I was wild my pain was BAD but I got through it in about four hours after getting to the hospital. For my other two I I had more of an Idea of what to expect so I was ready I was using "breathing tecniques" to help with pain n got done with it within 2 hours of arriving to the hospital. You can do it im not going to u lie it hurts but we(women) are STRONGER THAN WE THINK  n like my grandma said we were meant for this women have been doing this since forever with no pain meds u can do it too. Unless there is a medical reason why u shouldnt try I say go for it. It will be an amazing n UNFORGETTABLE experience for sure good luck to u!!!
