Legal Advice?

Well my last straw was just hit. It's time I leave my home.

I'm 17 and 8 months old. 11 weeks pregnant and I live in Virginia.

I'm going bonkers. I've read online but I really don't know where go start. All I know is I have to get out and soon. I can't take this stress and nor can my baby.

Where do I even start?

My fiance is the general manager for family dollar and will be more than able to support us. But i can't legally move in with him until I'm 18. I put a call into my lawyer so hopefully she can help me out.

I'm treated like I'm 12. And I love my family and want them in my life but they did the same thing to my older sister (whose since passed) but my sister always told me once she moved out her relationship with my family was so much better because she was on her own. I hope the same is for me.

I was in the same boat. Here in Ohio you would have to go through a process that can take up to two years so with that little of time til i was 18 it was pointless to me but i HAD to do it or i had to stick it out at home until i was 18 because no one would let me sign a lease since i was under 18. the only way i could have had around it was if i had someone who was over 18 that would sign a lease for me.
but check your state laws..some say that once you are pregnant you are considered emancipated and just need a written statement from the courts to show to a landlord
good luck!

in my opinion i would make sure you are stable enough to be paying for a house and all that every month if you don't want to end up back there. my cousin was just like you had her own everything and she ran out of money super fast when the baby came because she couldn't go back to work and she said everything was all for the baby and it was super expensive. as soon as you turn 18 you can file for your own insurance if you are pregnant by then still. they gave me insurance really fast because i was pregnant and i needed to see a doctor. but i live in california I'm not sure if thats the same everywhere else. but you can get emancipated especially because you are pregnant and if its causing you emotional stress and all that the state won't let you stay there. good luck! :)

Also in some states you are seen as a legal adult when you have a child to care for. I would call and set up a free consultation witha family law attorney and see if your state is one of them and whethef they consider your baby a dependent now or not.

Im not sure what the rules are in your state as I am from Ontario but generally if you are over 16 you have the legal right to move out on your own. I apologise if this is not the case! If not, you can most likely file a petition to the courts (especially in an abusive scenario) to have you become independent from your parents.

Legal emancipation? Once you begin that process you should be allowed to legally stay where you please for the duration of the court processingn, and since youre almost 18 by the time it even takes to court it will be dropped since you are legal.

I have a job. My own car. Everything.  I pay rent in my parents house. I pay for my own food phone everything. I don't have insurance and can't get it for myself until I'm 18 but my appointments are already paid for in full as a self pay client..

You can go to a planned parenthood and the can help you with housing. If housing isnt in your budget you can go to your local womens shelter. I know they are bleak options...it ***** to be in that position.
Maybe you have some other relatives to stay with? Or friends? Maybe a week or two will be good for you to get away for a bit.
Try to stay positive and keep calm. All the best hun. Good luck!
