Lexapro and Pregnancy

We have been trying to get pregnant for about 6 months now and I have not been on birth control for atleast ten months. I have been perscribed previously to take Lexapro and i was wondering if it was safe to take this while trying to get pregnant?

I take it when I fly because of anxiety. The ob told me it's safe in the second trimester, but to use sparingly in the first and third.

Lexapro is a Class C medication which means it can be taken while pregnant if the benefits outweigh the risks.  A Class C drug means that studies in animals show no ill effects on the fetus but no well-controlled studies have been performed in humans.

Discuss this with your doctor BEFORE getting pregnant.  Some doctors prefer you avoid Class C medications during the 1st trimester as that is when the potential for birth defects (if applicable) is greatest.

They will tell u, nothing is 100% safe. How ever I am 8 1/2 months pregnant and have been taking lexapro for some time. My baby is perfectly fine. Definitely talk to your doctor and let them know what u are taking. I'd avoid taking anything in the first trimester no matter what, but that is just me.
