MOMMY DOES WHAT ...

Hey mommies, how's it going. Hope all is fine(:  Tonight we were at my brother in laws and there was this girl vanessa talking about her wrk. Well she is a RN makes $30 an hour and I was so curious asking her questions about how she got through the program, how long, etc... She did mention it was hard and stressful, at times she felt like she couldn't but she did. She has no kids though so I cant even imagine how much harder and stressful I would feel. My dream is to be a Rn and eventually go for my BSN. I work as a medical assistant right now making $9 an hour, $13 OT. My question to any of you is what are your plans? Are you continuing your education while pregnant or already have kids and still going to school? And wrking? Just want to know if its possible to complete such a time consuming program with a baby..

I'm graduating early 3 & a half yrs this December & I start my masters program next fall when baby will be 7 or 8 mths. She will be at on-campus daycare while I attend classes two days a week & I will get to feed/see her in-between. You can do it :-)

We took a test through a program called ATI which is used by a ton of nursing schools. It was nerve wracking and that was the worst part for me; controlling the nerves. We also wrote a short essay about why we wanted to be nurses. Our program was 40 people. As far as critical thinking goes, its definitely experience. Personally, im a very hands on learner and I learn best by going through and experiencing a situation. They also match you up with somebody to train you for a good period of time, mine was 3 months. They are there to help guide you and help you connect the dots and think ahead of time about a situation.   One thing a lot of people forget is that were all human qnd we make mistakes. Even experienced nurses miss things, and its important to learn from that

@jerica86-Two toddles & preggo?! Your a super mommy. Keep doing your thing girl, Its true once your baby is born nothing is about you anymore. All for the kiddos(: thanks for the response
@mamakali-Your an RN. I pray to one day be in your place. Is your career time consuming now after school? As far as do you see you daughter everyday, get to spend time with her, go shoppin, stuff like that.
@harribee-Congrats for sticking it out, I am more than sure you will find a wonderful job(: Baby is going to look up to you!
@cnamarieg-That is a smart choice, pregnacy moods and bootcamp in one, yikes! I hope you go back & continue your education. Everything happens for a reason (: Im due jan 12th around that time . Hoping to go back to school august of 2014. Did you have a good support team ? How would you get homework done and still manage to take care of your baby.
@ashleypaige06-How exciting though, you have your RN ! I have all my prerequesites to enter the program but I took the test to enter the lpn program and I was not one of the 30 to get accepted:/ I went for my MA right after because I needed a job asap. Hopefully godwilling next fall I can start going again. The girl frm last night said the exact same thing you just said! Its all critical thinking, knowing how to apply your knowledgr to different scenarios. Any advice as far as how to get to that level? I've always had no prob with bookwork I seem to remember most of what I read. One more thing did you take a test to enter the program? Essays? How did you get in?? Thanks

I'm 12 weeks starting a LPN program next week. I have an 8yr old and an active duty hubby whoses going to be deployed when I have the baby. I'm nervous and stressed a little but where I live its a very competitive program so when I got in they gave me an option to start now or wait till April. Since I'm due 4/27 there was no point in me waiting so I'm gonna take this bull by the horns and get it done. Wish me luck

I am also an RN. Went straight for my BSN outta high school so I was graduated in may this year at 22. I found out in june that I was pregnant, and am now 22 weeks. It wasnt the best timing, as it would have been nice to establish my career first, but the timing definitely wasnt the worst. The program itself was 2 1/2 years, but after prerequesites it was a full 4 year degree.
The hardest part of nursing school was being smart on the floor and using critical thinking to work through a situation. Its ine thing to memorize a book, vocab, or how a ssituation should go. Its abother thing to not be in control and know its ultimately the patient thats in control. Things dont always go how they should, and that really throws some people that are more "book smart" for a loop

I'm an LPN, it was an intense 15 month program. The school I went to taught us at BSN level, mainly because all my teachers were doctors and they felt the need to teach us beyond our scope and give us LOTS of papers to write at BSN level. I completed the program with a 3 year old and I worked as a nurse nurse intern in a hospital level II trauma. I won't say it's easy, I cried alot but I did get through it, with all As and a few Bs =) I was just going to apply for the RN transition program but then found out I was pregnant, I prefer to enjoy my pregnancy without the stress of school. Nursing school is like boot camp, I didn't want added stress just yet. But if you are willing to work hard, you can do it! Good luck, go for your dream! :)

I finished university and graduated in my second semester. It was pretty tough but I'm really glad I managed. Baby is due in 8 days and I'm hoping to start looking for a job in February/March time :)

I'm an RN. I had my daughter at 17. Started school when I was 20. I had to go part time because I was a working single mom, but I got my LPN licence in 2009 and RN in 2011. It's hard but soooo worth it and completely doable. Go for it!
