Mandatory pregnancy class

So  im married to a marine and I called the hospital on base today to set up my first doc appointment for the baby. And the lady on the phone told me that threw my whole pregnancy I'm going to have to take a these classes. It was my knowledge that these were optional but she basically said it was mandatory. I mean I don't mind at all I just thought it was wierd. And one else not have a choice whether or not to take these pregnancy classes? Or is it just me lol

My husband is also a Marine stationed in Beaufort SC. I had to take one class at the beginning that told us what nurse to talk to and other general info like what meds we can take and when to go to the hospital. Also when to sign our baby up for Deers and what not. It wasn't too bad really... I'm due Aug. 17 with a boy. Rodger Darwin!!

My husband is a Marine also. And we live in Jacksonville because of my due date they have me delivering at the naval hospital, and having my doctors appointments there too. Ive already had two doctors app and they arent making me take any classes. They cant force you to take them, but if ita your first pregnancy, I would definitely look into them because they are helpful. I dont know why the lady said its mandatory. What base are you at?

My husband was a Marine in Jacksonville. Although I was never pregnant when we were there I had a few friends and if they were giving birth on base they both had to take a class but it seemed like the ones with doctors off base didn't need classes. I never chose a on base doctor their ridiculous. And because of base doctors my husband is now medically retired because they didn't take an eye disease that causes blindness seriously. I really suggest off base doctors.

Yeah that's where we're stationed.  Hopefully they're not too bad and I learn some valuable stuff. I wonder why they wouldn't just give you the option though I was thinking maybe it was just a military thing but mtasker you said yours were optional.  Well I guess I have no choice lol

Yes she was so not impressed since the classes were the same thing that she had already taken :( and she is coast guard stationed in florida...while my hubby and our other friends were marines in jacksonville, nc.

I think it depends on hospital policy. My husband is army and with our first pregnancy we had to take an intital class. They talked about spouse id numbers, deers, tricare, ect.

What! Are you serious?  I thought it was just because this is my first baby that's crazy. I would be so annoyed if I had to take them a second time.

My hubby was also a marine when we had our first...our naval hospital was full so they had me seeing a dr out in town and also delivering my baby there and we didn't have to take any classes. But a few of our friends that had babies and had them at the hospital on base had no choice but take the classes. Our one friend is a few months pregnant and literally had her daughter less than a yr ago and they are making her take the classes again.
