I live in a big city.  You and your baby get a picture in the paper and these babies are always born at 12:01 am midnight, Jan 1st.

In my hospital, any baby born on January first gets loads of diapers plus free vouchers for the first year, carseat, same with wipes, the bottles, formula, everything you need for baby minus clothes. I know because my sister was the first born in 2005.

You hospital does everything and gets everything you need for the 1st year. In my city as long as your baby birthday is Jan 1st that baby gets everything.
