OT: TJ's got his first tooth!

I had to brag... After a fussy week and being inconsolable at times this morning his first tooth FINALLY came in! He just turned 15mo old so it was about time, lol. now that we know he's definitely teething we're giving him a little tylenol for the pain.

however he won't take anything cold, hard, or that vibrates (like those vibrating teethers) so the only thing he seems to like is his own hand to chew on and that's not very feasible. Any suggestions for picky teethers?

Oh congrats!!! The first tooth is always too cute to see!

Sounds like your doing a good job though, you already got the Orajel! i would just try a couple different things until he finds somthing he likes to chew on... Noah is teething now and likes to chew on rubber things LOL like bottle nipples and he loves the rasberry teether... But he is picky, he doesnt like COLD things either and does NOT do the traditional teethers......Different things work for different babies i guess LOL

Awww congrats again, and I hope he doesnt get too fussy, poor guy!

Smjmekg~ We're not that far into his feeding training to give him anything that can break off even a little. He's still getting stage 1 and 2 baby foods (remember, he was on a ventilator for a while and developed a feeding aversion, meaning he doesn't  tolerate alot of different textures or foods yet)

I'm looking into the teething tablets and the mesh things too because another mom told me you can put other stuff in the mesh bags, it doesn't have to be frozen (since tj HATES cold stuff). lol, I have a picky little guy

Irish~ i'm gonna look into one of the teething rasberries to see if he likes it.

Have you tried one of those teething raspberries? They are essentially pacifiers but bumpy, all rubbery and a bit larger than a paci. Jack loves his, even more so now that he has a few teeth the gnash it with. I actually got mine at a CVS pharmacy but I am sure places like Target and BRU have them too. Congrats on the tooth and I hope his pain is not too bothersome.

Try giving him bitter biscuits, or they have some baby toast from Gerber. I gave it to Elijah when he was younger and teething. It's hard enough to help with teething, but it practically melts in their mouth so you don't have to worry about choking too much until he gets teeth and can bite off pieces. Elijah loved to gum it. There's a picture of him with a piece of the baby toast on my profile, if you want to see it. They also have mesh holders, if you can find them at a store that you can put things like frozen fruit (peaches for example) in them and let him chew on it. I never used it with Elijah, I couldn't find one forever and by the time I did he had all four front top and bottom teeth in. They also have teething tablets, I didn't use them either but I've heard a lot of good stories about them.

Sunkissed~ We're using orajel on him just on the areas where it hurts and he seems all happy afterwards for a good while.

Grandmatobe~ I've figured out TJ likes his "O" ball which is a therapy toy... but it's impractical because he can't actually chew on it, only try, lol.  I'm gonna try a rubber bottle nipple/paci.... maybe he'll like it at least enough to get us past these first few teeth.

I'm reluctant to give him a straw, his hand eye coordination isn't that great and he's bonked himself in the face a ton of times just w/the stuff DH give him to play w/ (pens w/the caps on.. lol, bad Idea)  and of course when DH has done that he's sat right there 6in away watching since he wanted to see what TJ would do... I try to discourage it since it's obviously a choking hazard. I wonder what DH is gonna do when mason gets here and develops alot more quickly?

My granddaughter didn't get her first tooth until she was a year old.  I thought they would NEVER come in.  Now she has 11, although four of them are only halfway through.  I have noticed that she likes to chew on things that are rubber, such as a bottle nipple or maybe the liner that goes into a storage lid (some of them have those rubber circles that go inside the lid).  She doesn't like the teething rings or anything cold either.  Also, straws seem to be one of her favorite things too.

awe how cute! i cant really think of anything thats not cold or hard to give him besides baby orajel....to rub on his gums. that stuff works like a charm! it just numbs their gums right up so they cant feel as much discomfort....but it makes em drool like crazy!!
