80% effaced and 1cm

for those who has been pregnant before...I went to my appointment yesterday and he said I was 1cm dialated and 80% effaced.. How long do you think it will before I go into labor or does this really mean anything. Could I go all the way to my due date with these stats? my baby is weighing seven pounds now, also he said that I have a very narrow pelvis and may have to do a c-section is there no possibilty at all for vaginal? Thanks

not to damper your excitement, but with my 3rd child (and bear in mind they say you go quicker) i was 4-5cm and 70% effaced for over a week before my water finally broke on its own...my doctors refused to even induce despite the fact that i was 39wks b/c the baby looked fine...its not an indicator of time other than to say 'soon'!

Just remember when they tell you the weight they can be off by quite a bit.  There are cases where the baby is as big or bigger then they predict but it seems like there are far more cases where the baby is much smaller then they say it is and then are born early and are NOT ready to have come out yet.  Also I know several women who had c-sections due to a baby that was "too big for them" and then did a VBAC with  their second baby with a much better doctor or having switched to a midwife and delivered a baby 2 pounds heavier then their first vaginally with not even a tear!  Insane!  The far majority of the time your body will take care of things and not give you a baby that is too big for you to push out.  Be VERY weary of doctors who try and push you to induce or c-section because of your baby being "too big" because it's most commonly just not correct.  Good luck to you though!  If you get a little more dilated you could request your doc strip membranes as that may push you into labor IF you are ready.  Or at least may help you dilate a big further. Take care!!!

Thanks for your responses I am due March 27th...yeah I was thinking about the sex and I have been already walking because I want my little boy to come out lol.. yeah he didnt schedule a c-section so I think he going to wait until I go into labor to see what is going to happen first and then make a decision.

Like GRose said...you could go into labor today...or you could be 1cm for weeks. When is you due date? I would go for lots of walks and have lots of sex. lol That's what I did starting at 36 weeks (that's when I had a bloody show) but I didn't go into labor until exactly 38 weeks. I would def. tell your doc if you want a vaginal delivery. Personally I would want to try everything first to do a vaginal delivery, but if it ends of being safer to have a c-section, then it will be in the baby's best interest. =)

You can be 1cm dialated for weeks or you could go into labor today, it all just depends. If a vaginal delivery is what you want, tell your OB that, you can try but they wont let you push for more than 3 hours.
