PRENATAL VITAMINS

HELLO ALL,

I'm finally expecting my first child and I'm totally excited about the days ahead.  I'm 29 and currently awaiting my first OB appt....according to my calculations, I'm 6wks and 2days.  I'm wondering if I should ask for the chewable vitamins or the pill....which one would u recommend and why?  Thank you!

Ahh. Yeah, that's why in the states you have to be careful with what you get, cause ours don't always have what you need, or have amounts that are too low and you need to supplement.

Thank you and Congrats to you all.  I currently have the chewables which my general physician prescribed but I'm so scared to take them bc I hate being sick.....hate vomiting.  I'm going to take your advice and try one tonight to see how my body responds.  If its good I might keep them but I love the thought of using gummies and flintstones better.  Maybe my OB Will remedy the gummies on Monday. :)

They are OTC here too, but you can get prescription ones which have everything you need in them, and you don't have to compare ingredients. To get OTC you don't need a prescription, you just get them.

The otc thing must be a states thing? in canada we dont need a script, they are otc already... but i also should add that the whole gummy prenatals doesnt sound like its here yet... or its not on the order list for the pharmacy back home...

Both this pregnancy and the last i just take/took the normal vitamins... i do reccomend to take them with a meal or at bedtime as you may be a little more sensitive to the vitamins... my first pregnancy i had no troubles taking them without food but with this one i have been taking them at bedtime and i seem to handle them better... so once (fingers crossed) i start to feel better im gonna try to take them with breakfast instead... but like Clysta said compare whats in them when deciding to make sure that you are getting everything you need for both you and that little bean! congrats!!!

Hey! I'm 26 this is my first pregnancy I'm 9w today! Congrats to us lol! :) when I first tested positive I ran right to the grocery store and bought an otc prenatal vitamin took it for almost 3 weeks and was terribly sick the whole time dr said to take 2 flintstone vitamins and a folic acid 400mcg and after that I became human again lol thank goodness! But I've heard alot of people just buy the otc vitamins cause the prescription ones cost more. Just food for thought! :) congrats girl!

Whichever you prefer. I used a pill only because I could hardly eat food let alone chew a chalky pill. There are gummy Prenatals (I'm sure half a dozen people will recommend them) however you will also need to take additional supplements as they do not have all the vitamins you need.
