Blood in stool???

I posted this on the Maternal and Child Forum...but I wanted to post it here as well! Thanks for any input!!

Today I noticed in Jeremiah's diaper, that there seemed to be some blood tinged mucous along with with his stool. He has gone a total of 5 times today and 3 had some blood...that I noticed....not a lot, but enough to make me go "hmmmmmmm". What could that be from??? I am so lost...if I notice anything tomorrow and it worsens, I am going to take him to the hospital. I don't know what else to do....Before yesterday he hadn't gone poopy in almost 3 days.....I am lost!!
He seems completely fine though otherwise... no temp., laughing and smiling, and being his goofy self and sleeping great. =)
I did notice that yesterday when he went poopy and it was really thick....I know...TMI....and today it had this mucous stringy stuff but it wasn't thick.... a couple of weeks ago he had some mucous..but I thought maybe he was a passing a cold or something. HELP! Any ideas???

Okay! Thanks so much! I called my mom tonight and she said the same thing you did. I am not freaking out as much now. Hopefully it is just a cold and the blood is from straining. I really appreciate your help though! I just worry about every little thing with Jeremiah! I will keep an eye on it and hopefully it will go away soon.

Also I forgot to add, the Human body cannot digest mucous, so when you have a cold and there is drainage with a lot of mucous in it, it will be passed in the bowels, that could be why his bowel is moucousy and stringy, and the blood vessel could just be adding onto everything.

Goodluck!

It could be that he ruptured a bloodvessel in his rectum due to straining to use the bathroom or being constipated for the 3 days. I know my youngest son had the same thing and thats what the docs diagnosed him with. He had pushed so hard to poop due to constipation and colic that he broke a blood vessel in his rectum and caused him to bleed. It continued to bleed for a few days after as every bowel movement irritated the already irritated rear of my poor baby lol.

If it doesn't go away or if he starts having a fever I suggest taking him in. If anything you can always call your pediatrcian/family doc and just make them aware of the situation incase it does get worse.
