*bump*
I really do recommend the Tommee Tippees especially if you're breastfeeding...the nipple, IMO, is as identical to the breast as I've ever seen...anyone who's interested you can go to www. tommeetippee . us ...remove the spaces.
I highly recommend at least peeking at them, the nipple is AWESOME..and very breast-like.
I exclusively breastfed my children. But I made so much milk that I had to pump off to keep from being engorged all the time lol. It came in handy on sunday mornings so I could send a pumped bottle to the nursery and not have to be called out of the service to feed the girls. However the only bottle they would take was the Breastflow bottle because it has the shortest nipple and it wide like a breast. I tried about 6 different bottles, but in the end it wasn't what I preferred it was what they liked. So in short we used Breast Flow brand bottles.
I was going to use the Born Free bottles with my son, but he didn't like the nipple. Then we tried Avent and he hated the nipples on those, too, AND they leaked. So I hated the Avent bottles as much as he did. Then we tried the First Years BreastFlow, and he was okay with that for a couple of weeks, then decided he wasn't fond of that nipple, either. So we tried the Medela bottles, and they were also a no go. Then on to the Gerber Nuk bottles with the wide nipple. He didn't seem to mind those, but he was a little fussy with them.
End of story--I decided to get the $0.99 Gerber bottles and the tall narrow Gerber Nuk orthodontic nipples like tiredbuthappy described. That is the ONLY type of bottle and nipple my son will take. The boy will have total conniptions if you offer him anything different, lol.
So after spending a small fortune in bottles, turns out he likes the cheapest bottles best, and the nipples are pretty cheap, too. He gets a good latch that doesn't slide around in his mouth and he can firmly close his lips over the nipple where it narrows down. His gas issues lessened using these bottles. Like your son, he was King Fartsalot for the first 8-9 weeks of his life, lol.
Tommee is best for breast pumps and if you're breast feeding as well. I actually brought my first lot today :)....and a tommee tippee breastpump... it was really cheap cause there is a sale + my mum's discount card WOOHOO
I think its cause of the 'breast shaped' top and the resemblement it has especially if you are BF as well... always better...
They are big... the best selling I think..
xx
*bump* thanks Cassandra yeah I had heard that the Tommee's were really really big in Britain and no one in the US seems to have heard of them yet....but this is day 2 of using them and they've been wonderful!
Tired:: I know it's normal and it is definitely somewhat comical LOL...especially when you're holding them with your hand on their butt and it's just like a little whoopee cushion every 5 minutes...my daughter wasn't as bad as my son is but she was pretty gassy...I think she was about 8wks when she outgrew it too, which means I'm halfway there with Grey hehe.
I could never get Kahlan to use the nuks, she always preferred the soothie nipples because those were the binks we used with her...oddly enough Grey likes the TOmmee Tippee nipples but the soothie binks...weird kid.
I ended up using the gerber nuk orthodontic nipples with both of my girls (the narrow ones- not wide based). With my first, we tried almost every bottle system out there (almost a dozen) before finding one that worked. The firm nipple base and the shape allowed her to latch on to it better resulting in less gas.
My second did manage to latch on to the avent, but I HATE avent because they leak and spill everywhere, so we went back to the nuk with her too. She did do better on the nuk my girls had small mouths, so maybe that's partly why they did well on it?
A note about gassy newborns- my first was incredibly gassy and spent the first 2 months of her life farting. It was almost comical, and I do have video footage of one of her morning fart sessions. My LC told me that it is very typical and normal for newborns to be so gassy. This is because their digestive tracts have so many small tight bends that bubbles get trapped more easily. She assured me that after 2 months or so, the baby's digestive tract would mature and she would be less gassy. She was right. My second wasn't as bad, but still gassy. She also started to outgrow it it around 8 weeks, with no changes to diet or routine.
Forgot to mention that I used the nuk nipples on the medela bottles that came with my pumps and thAt I got from the hospital. They are bpa free and have been for a while compared to other brands.
