trouble breastfeeding

Hi,

can anyone help me or have any advice as my two week old doesnt latch on to me. I tried breastfeeding ever since he was born , he just ends up licking the drops of milk . I have tried everything from nipple shields, all different positions, taken so much advice and help from classes and midwifes  but nothing works. He just doesnt suck or get a big enough mouthful. Can anyone help

thanks

Make sure his lip is pulled down amd the top lip is over your nipple. It could also be a tongue tie.

They don't need a lot. Their tummy is like the size of a walnut. I had a hard time too, I just kept trying, sometimes I needed help getter her latched on. And for a while she would only eat out of one side. It takes time. As long as he is peeing then he is getting enough. Have you been using bottles too? Cuz you dont want to do that this early, it can cause nipple confusion so he will end up rejecting the breast

When the nurse came to help me get my baby to latch on she made me place my hand under her neck and push her as much as I could into my nipple forcing it in her mouth. My boob covered her nose to and when I asked about suffocation the nurse said it doesn't suffocate the baby . she said they smell you and it helps them relax to suck better.
