Methotrexate is given for different reasons, so it is important to follow the instructions of your doctor. The injection (or pill form) litterally robs your body of folic acid, which is vital for a growing baby to develop properly - especially in the beginning stages of life. It takes more than a week or so to regenerate your supply of folic acid. The longer you have been on it, the longer it takes to bounce back.

When I had the one injection of methotrexate for an ectopic pregnancy my dr advised that I wait until my hcg levels reached zero (which took about 5 weeks). Also, she wanted to wait until a HSG test could be performed. In the mean time, she wanted me on a HIGH dose of folic acid (after my numbers reached zero) to replenish my supply. I had to wait another cycle to have the HSG test done. Once those results came back clear, I was allowed to try to concieve again. It took 2, nearly 3 months after the shot to try again for another baby. I did fall pregnant right away again. I stayed on the high dose folic acid until 16 weeks of pregnancy when an ultrasound was performed to determine there were no nural tube defects (a problem with low folic acid).

The methotrexate shot is a very serious treatment and you should follow the directions of your doctor who gave it to you. I wish you the best luck in trying again for another baby! It will happen in due time....

I was on methotrexate for rheumatoid. took it weekly though and was on it for a while. Due to it being such a strong drug I was told to be off it for three months by one doc n 6 by another but most articles ect say three is more than enough. Especially I would say as you not been in it for long. But wouldn't chance sooner than three months as it defo deforms babies they told me if I fell preg whilst on it they would give me no choice and abort as does that much damage. They wouldn't prescribe it unless was on birth control. Anyway three months at least will be fine!
