why do doctors do this!?!

Okay everyone I'm officially irritated. When I found out I was pregnant I went to the doctors at 7 weeks. All she did was take my urine and screen it for STDs I'm guessing and to get a positive test. So I go back today at 9 weeks 2 days for a pelvic exam and the nurse was like oh she will listen to the heart since your 9 weeks and put out the doppler? and gel. So my doctor did a pelvic exam and said my uterus was bigger and my cervix looked good and then put away the Doppler and said its to early to hear the heart. I see people on here get to hear at heart at 9 weeks so I don't get why she skipped it. I haven't been having symptoms and I told her this and she explained there is still a 1/3 chance for a miscarriage   and what not so that didn't make me feel better. Ultrasounds are done at the hospital so I have to wait til she sends them a note allowing me to get one which she said she did but the hospital said she sent the wrong one. I'm too anxious for this. Anyone have familiar expierences?

I would get a new doctor too. I had to wait for a lot of the things I wanted, and I'm now so upset with my doctors at 40 weeks that I sobbed in the office today. If I could go back and change the doctors, I would.

I heard my sons heartbeat at 7-8 weeks. My first ultrasound it was, when I first found out I was pregnant.

I am currently 5 weeks and 2 days pregnant and my doctor tried finding the heart beat today but couldn't find it. She said she is not sure if its just too soon or if something is wrong. This definitely has me worried. They are bringing me back in a week for another ultrasound to try to find a heartbeat again

My Dr. Office won't listen to heartbeat until 16 weeks. Even then they had a hard time finding. That there Doppler's are to old and wouldn't do any good lol. But I got a ultrasound at 12 weeks and heart beat then.

Doctors in the UK don't look for heartbeat until 16 weeks so as to not worry the mother if they can't find it :)

My doctor didn't try to listen until 12 weeks either but I agree to get a new doctor and you definitely need an ultrasound to get the correct due date

A lot of doctor a won't actually try and listen for a heartb at until after 10 weeks because it's hard to find and causes unnecessary freaking out by the mum thinking there is no heartbeat there's something wrong with my baby. Blah blah blah if she didn't try then she's probably confident that everything is ok and a Doppler isn't needed also some doctor a think that overuse of a Doppler is said ( not proven though) that it could cause potential harm to a fetus. My doc told me when she was using it that she was going to search for two minutes and that was it she found it but I only heard it for about 3 seconds .

My doctor won't listen for a heartbeat until 12 weeks. Its a lot harder to find one with a Doppler then when you have a ultrasound. Actually I didn't hear babies heartbeat this time until 14 weeks because we couldn't find it at 12. This made me need an ultrasound and caused a lot of panic.

If u ask the docotr u want it, they can't refuse it. If they do find a docotr that will be listing to the patient n not do what they wanna do.

Thanks for your responses. I Think I need tofind someone else. She is nice but my husband took the time off work because we thought we would get to hear the heart and when the nurse took out the Doppler I was excited but the doctor said it was too early. I'm so irritated and don't go back to her til week 13. Hopefully I get to schedule the ultra sound soon. I appreciate hearing back from you all and hearing how your doctor handled your situation.

I heard my babies heart beat early only because I had an ultrasound done to make sure everything was okay. My Dr didn't listen for the heartbeat until 12 weeks.

I didn't get my first ultrasound until 20 weeks and it'll probably be my only one. They can tell by the size of your uterus and doing a physical exam if you are where you're suppose to be

I am 8w3d and will be having my first scan next week. When I found out I was pregnant I saw my GP and they did all the usual blood test, urine test etc and confirm the pregnancy. When I returned for results I wad given a referral to book a dating ultrasound at the local radiology clinic.
As far as I'm aware you need to have a scan by at least 10 weeks to check all is progressing well and you should be able to hear the heart beat!
I have no idea why your doctor hasn't sent you for a scan or done one themselves.. that is awful that they would scare you and say a scan isn't necessary you may miscarry, I suggest going to another doctor asap.

As long as you are not experiencing any sharp abdominal pains, extreme craps or bleeding you are fine! So try not to worry, everyone has different symptoms and some people have none.
Try not to stressed! Good luck :)
