Ok I didnt read all the comments but im going to let u know from experience. I smoked with my first son untill I was 6 months. Although he was born healthy 7lbs 13oz. 21in long. At 3 months he was put on a nebulizer for his cough at 5 months he had an upper respiratory infection. He caught it 6 times before he was one. But by the time he was one the diagnosed him with asthma. Now he has to have an inhaler with him all the time and asthma isn't even in our family he has a lot of trouble a lot of breathing problems now. And its all my fault for smoking that crap I was young and dumb didn't know I was hurting my son for the rest of his life. It's something I will not ever do again. And for a midwife saying to smoke to get hungry WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH HER!!!!!!! Where I'm from they take drug test every month. And I would not recommend for anyone to smoke while pregnant. Just from my experience with my first son.
A lot of you girls are very uneducated about marijuana. There have been many studies done that marijuana has no harmful effects on the fetus of animals and I am a medical card owner as is my mother, she smoked marijuana through her whole pregnancy with me and my 3 siblings for nausea and being under weight. It is legal but not during pregnancy which I believe will change in the future. The reason marijuana is illegal at all is because of the government laws. Which we the people of the USA are blind of in many cases. The point is, it will not harm your baby. The only thing it will do is harm your lungs (if u abuse it) which many pregos do with hairspray and other everyday products, which may slightly cut off a small amount of oxygen to the baby. (same as sleeping on ur back while prego)
I know many women who have used it during pregnancy and their children are perfectly fine. Including my mothers friends who I grew up with their children whom are smart healthy 20-30 yr old ppl. Being I live in oaksterdam Oakland ca!!!
Studies have been done on this for over 30 years in other countries. Go to youtube, type in Melanie Dreher. There's your answer. Cannabis causes no harm to a developing child from conception to adulthood, In fact, most children at 1month old were more intelligent, alert, and pleasant to be around, had better motor and cognitive functioning, and were less irritable. We have a huge prejudice in this country and some others, and you must keep that in mind when you ask other's opinions. You have every right to ensure your baby survives this pregnancy as well as yourself. Depression, Dehydration, Fatigue, Malnutrition, Stress, Medications WILL harm your child, depending on the amount, and that is a fact, and those conditions are serious. Because it is still illegal in the states, caution and care must be used to ensure no legalities harm you or your child.
hey girl I've wondered the same thing. And for all those comments that there is other help with morning sickness, I have two words for that....bull ****!! Not when you are suffering from hyperemesis gravaderum. There is no cure for that and it repeats itself and gets owrse with each pregnancy. Not only that, it is extremely life threatening. If there is something out there that helps get a woman through this and it causes little to no effect on the fetus then I say our goverment need s to legalize it. I took several medications during my pregnancy that were little known on how it would react with the long term condition of the baby but they gave them anyway because it was life or death. I have done alot of research on this and no one is able to give solid proof that it does hurt the baby.
I say if keeps you heealthy and eating discuss it with your husband and family and make the best decision for all of you. If all other medications for nausea have failed to work I say why not give it a try.
This seems to be a very hot topic lately.
I'm not gunna say I agree with it, but I'm not gunna say I'm not agreeing with it.
Pregnant women are gunna do what they're gunna do regaurdless of what their doctors say, their friends say, their family memebers say...
I'm a smoker.
I'm almost 6 1/2 months pregnant.
I quit off and on throughout my first 4 1/2 months of pregnancy, but **** just keeps happening and it's making my life hell, so it made my mind for quitting that much worse.
I did so good, I went over a whole month without smoking at I think my 3rd into my 4th month.
Then Amtrak happened, I'm sure I've already told you. lol
So anyways.
You're gunna do what you're gunna do, but I am gunna warn you, I used to work for dealers, and I know how they work...
I wouldn't suggest it because you CANNOT trust what they put in that stuff.
They usually lace it with SOMETHING.
Yeah, you can grow it yourself, but by the time that's ready, it'll be time for you to give birth, and it's really not worth getting in trouble over.
And there's alot more hamrful chemicals in marijuana than there is in Cigarettes, but I guess you already see that.
There are other options out there to help boost up your appetite that are legal, and much safer.
I'd strongly suggest talking to your doctors about some options before you go ahead and make your decision.

I'm sorry to bring this post back to the front since everyone would probably rather it die out, but it reminded me of something in my family. I myself have never read up on smoking weed during pregnancy because I didn't do it at all before I ever became pregnant with my kids (was more of a book worm in school lol). I don't know all the risks to it or what, but I was curious after I read this because of the mentioning of leukemia. My cousin was pregnant a few years ago. I walked in her house to actually catch her taking a "puff" off a joint for m/s. And was honestly horrified, so I asked her wth she was doing. Well when her son was somewhere between 1 and 2 yo he was diagnosed with leukemia, he died at age 3. I did however find "One study even found that young children whose mothers smoked marijuana during pregnancy had a higher risk of leukemia than those whose mothers did not. " I'm not sure if it was anything to do with her smoking that did that to her son, but honestly if there's any studies that would even suggest such a thing, and seeing what that poor baby went through before he got his wings there's no way in hell I'd even consider looking at the sh*t.
