Slings are great if used right!!! The sling that was recalled studies were done on it years ago back in 2007 and the company knew that it had a suffocation risk. The babies head shoudl always be out of the sling and the baby should never be curled in a C position laying nor upright! That is the problems not the slings. GO to facebook at babywearing and it has articles that were "retracted" as the jounalist got the info wrong It also has a link to baby wearing and shows pictures of how to and not wear baby. Babies should never be laid down in the slings like a duffle bag!!!!! Anyone should know that a baby needs his/her head out to breath properly and to be upright unless being feed. They are very safe and people not need to casue alarm that they are dangerous! Most babies die from misuse of car seats and strollars then ever in sling history! Please learn how to saftly use them and don't trow them away if they have not been recalled. Yes the company knew the hazard and there is another duffle bag type that knows and not recalling either! But there are safe use of wear instructions and safe slings and wraps. The baby that died had his face down in the sling and against the mom. It is a sad thing to have happened but read your instructions carefully and don't blame products when you use them incorrectly!
I to am going to stay away from slings altogether. Glad this was helpful for some of us :)
