Shower Gifts

I'm getting a little nervous because everyone keeps talking about what they want to get me for presents. The items they tell me about are really things I don't need and even though I tell them this and suggest gift cards or cash (or even diapers) I'm worried about getting a bunch of stuff I don't need. What I REALLY need are more personal things I'd rather buy on my own (underwear, bras, etc). What's the best way to ask people for only gift cards or cash without being rude or sounding picky? I know how much people like to actually buy things for the baby but I'm afraid I'll just end up with a bunch of things I don't need at all! Any suggestions??

Thank you guys for the suggestions! I just feel like anytime I let people know what I really need (which are a few things for myself) or gift cards I get this vibe from them. Kind of like they don't want to do that, they would just rather buy something nice for the baby but they keep coming up with things I don't need! I will try some of these suggestions but like I said when I bring it up I get this vibe from them. Like my mother in law or my family, it just kind of bothers me because you would think they would want to get something that I really need.

I made a registry and that seemed to help with my first two showers.
Also requested gift receipts.
This time I am having a gender reveal and simply request guests to bring a gift card from their store of choice.
It will make it easier on me so I can get what I need without waste.
I completely understand needing things for you! People tend to forget about momma!
Its a hard task but you just have to be honest with them. And I know sometimes it doesn't matter.
My sister bought my daughter a 100 dress she wouldn't even wear till her first birthday!
I was like omg! That's two months of diapers!!! It made me wanna barf.

You can always ask them to put gift recipts with the gift. Say just incase you get double. Then you can return stuff you do not need and get what you do. It might sound bad but sometimes we just have to. Good luck.
