So tired and starting to get impatient

Im 38 weeks and 3 days today i went to the doctor on thursday and he didn't check to see if i had effaced or dialated aren't they supposed to check for that when your this far along in your pregnancy ? all he said was if i have any bleeding, contractions, or my water breaks to go to the hospital. i know he checked when i was only 36 weeks and 2days and told me that i was closed i've been telling him about the pains that i've been having all he says is to take it easy but that's what iv'e been doing all i do is walk and do things around the house is this normal it doesn't seem so to me cause all of my cousins, sisters and friends told me when they reached the final weeks of there precnancy they got checked every week to see if they had dialated or effaced im lost i know this is my second pregnancy but my daughter is 8 and i was really young when i had her so i don't really remember anything about this whole being pregnant thing its like my first time don't have anyone else to ask cause when i call sisters, family,or friends for advice or to ask a question they make me feel stupid because i don't really know to much about this maybe i am but i've had other things on my mind besides having babies back to back like them like getting a better education and a job i don't know please help

Some doctors check effacement and dilation, some don't. The reason being is that it has nothing to do with when you'll go into labor. A woman can be dilated and effaced for weeks and still have to be induced past her due date, and a woman can not have any cervical changes and BOOM! go into labor on her own, before her due date. So checking isn't really a big deal. If it means something to you (it did to me) then ask them to check.

You're not stupid and your friends and family shouldn't make you to feel that way. Every single pregnancy and every single doctor and every single woman are different. Just take it easy and if you want to know whether or not you're dilated, just ask your doctor to do it at your next appointment.
