checking cervix for dilation

So i feel left out here. I see all these women, some where im farther along than them, who had their cervix checked for dilation already.i was expecting it at this appointment i just went to and even with all my pain lately, she didnt check at all. Im almost 37 weeks. Should it have been done already? This pain is getting so bad that i cant help but feel like something is happening already and theyre not even checking

My doctor started last week I'm 35+4, so you can prob just ask for them to do it(it doesn't hurt when he checks me) ..I was told you can't swim after your dilated.. is this true? ? (Sorry to go a little off topic)

I guess every doctor/midwife  is different because the doctor starts to check me at 36 weeks. I'm 34+2 weeks

Right? That's why I asked her about it xD everyones like "omg 80% effaced 2 cm dilated!" And im just sittin here like " :| man.. forget you guys" but yeah. I don't see why not. (: you could also have an ob that doesn't check you until 40w.

Really? Because with the way i see so many getting them checked, its like they give it out like candy.made it seem like a procedure thing hah..so i can simply just ask?

I'm 39 and they haven't checked me either. I asked my midwife about it and she said they typically don't just do them because there's really no need and it's uncomfortable for us but if I ever did want her to, all I have to do is ask.
