If you didn't have 7 days of non hormone pills or 7 days of no pills then it is possible you are having breakthrough bleeding. This can happen if the pills you are on are light on hormones. Most pills are intended to have 7 days off so you can have a withdrawal bleed (this is not a period). If you are wanting to take them in three month intervals, continuously with only 4 bleeds a year, i would talk to your doctor to make sure you are on the right pills with the right hormones for this purpose. Taking them continuously won't "regulate you." Your body is designed to bleed every 28 days or so and forcing it to not do that is irregulation.
You should wait for a full week of taking the pill before having unprotected sex, you can get pregnant, even after taking it for more than a week the pill is not 100% effective. If you mean you took the pill continuously and didn't stop for your period or didn't take the inactive pill, then you have no way of knowing if you were late or did not have a period at all. You should take a pregnancy test if you have had any symptoms, and from now on take the pills as directed.
