TJ update~

sorry it's been a while. I've been staying with TJ in loma linda. They identified the bacteria causing this second infection as staph the kind that lives on your skin.

They caught it early and are having TJ be on 4 total week Vanco.  (vancomycin)

RSV is going around the hospital really bad so I'm glad tj has been had his shot. He's been playing and having fun with his toys.

Due to him being on the vent for so long he still has a horrible oral aversion. 2 days ago, I worked with him all day long while he was awake using the excercises OT taught me/us. by the end I could put a paci in his mouth even tho he acted like he HATED The taste.

However when I'd dip my finger in water he'd suck on it every so often! I'm here in town again today getting our taxes and stuff taken care of, while I have the chance. Tj's been showing so much more of his personality. During the time I was there I'd work with him as much as he'd let me doing OT and PT excercises.

His primary team even OK'd 10 Min. TUMMYTIME as long as the PT therapist was there! And the first time we got him on his tummy,  just as usually, when he'd get mad at us he'd arch his back and move his head around (suprised PT) lol.

So, now I guess they're talking a week or so,. None of understands why they don't send him home if RSV is running around the hospital and he can be sent with a PICC line in place anywayse....

my sons ped. diagnosed him with a slightly rare condition (only 3 cases in Kentucky they know of) where he will get RSV every 20-30 days, his immune system wont build up immunity to it! hopefully TJ doesn't get it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh wow if it isn't one thing after another.  So sorry to hear that.  Yeah kids have been sick alot here lately.  I'm glad that they caught that staff infection soon.  My daughter and her two sisters caught that and I thought that it was just a pimple until she started leaking greenish blood.  It was scary.  Then her youngest sister ( not from me) had got it but hers got really bad within a matter of 2 days!  They ended up keeping her in childrens for a couple of nights.  The medicine didn't work to drain the infection so they had to do surgery put alittle slit in her leg and had to kinda dig it out.  I know it sounds gross.  When she did come home we had to pack the little insision with some kind of sterile gauze it was so nasty.  But luckily my daughter and her older sister had theirs caught in enough time to just be on medicine for a week.  It's scary though since some people told me that there has been people loseing a infected body part due to the infection before.  Urgh I hope your little man  gets better. and good luck

I'm SO glad to hear they caught the staph infection early on!!! My niece got a staph infection in the newborn nursery when she was born.

Anyway, good luck getting your taxes done. I hope TJ gets to go home soon, too!
