I was the same with my second on the after contractions too.  They were so much more painful especially while nursing.  But atleast you know your body is working right.

labor with my 2nd son was easier, much more relaxed and amazing and i think its in part b/c i knew what to expect so i was able to take it one contraction/centimeter at a time!

I did get epis all 3x. The 1st one, I went into labor on my own & felt nothing...no pain or pressure. The second one I was dialating but when i got to the hospital, they hooked me up to pitocin. Felt no pain, only pressure. My third one, I was not in labor @ all. Was induced, and it was like the epi only worked on the left side of my body. I could feel everything on the right side.

well my i have 6 kids. lets see. my 1 was total about 6 hrs. i got an epi cuz i was scared too death! lol  they had to use forceps w. her.  my 2nd hhahaha  well i woke up in labor waited an hr or so, went to hospital, they came in to check me i was 10 cm! i was freakin! i wanted an epi cuz i was scared it was gonna hurt! i had already been thru the "worst" part!it wasnt bad  just uncomfy), so yea my 2nd was a breeze! my 3rd, i think i was in labor about 5 hrs. she was pretty easy. my 4th i woke up around 6ish (am) very uncomfortable, but i walked around the house for a cpl hrs cuz i wanted to w8 as long as possible b4 going to hospital. well my water broke, around 8:30am. wentt o hospital had him around noonish. labor wasnt bad just uncomfy. (he just had a HUGE head)lol    ok my 5th i went in i was between 6-7 cm (had been for weeks) they broke my water and he was out in no time! my 6th i woke up between 5-6 am, uncomfy, told my ex its gonna be today. i walked around trying to saty home for as long as possible (i hate hospitals) i could tell around 9 they were gettin closer 2gether, so i said lets go! by the time we got there, i could no longer feel my cx, but i was 10 cm! they rushed in hooked me all up, an di was waiting for my cousin cuz she was goin in w/ me too. the doc said you can start pushin w/e u want. he had to tell me when i was cx cuz i could not feel them at all. for me the more i had, the less painful. the only bad thing was not having the "push" feeling to help push the baby out :(  i had to push HARD but not long at all. i had an epi w/ the first, and the 2nd was so much faster n easier, i skipped on epi w/ all the rest :)

Honestly for me, it varies from 1 baby to the next.

With my first, I was in labor (from start to finish, not hard labor) for about 48 hours.  It started in my back.

2nd, She was only about 12 hours total from start to finish.

3rd, She was about 24 hours total

4th, I was induced by my choice because I wanted to make sure that my doctor was the one that delivered her.  She was about 9 hours total.

5th, She was about 12 hours total.  But they also gave me petocin (sp???) to help it along.

Now after you have a baby, you have the "after" contractions.  With my first, they were very mild like menstral cramps.  I didn't need anything for the pain.  But with all the rest, it has gotten WAY more painful with each one.  With #2 and 3, I took Tylenol 3, but once number 4 came, that was no longer strong enough.  It didn't touch them.  I passed out holder her in my hospital bed it was so painful.  So, now I have to use Hydrocodone for them.  It's like being in full blown labor.  The nurse said it can be worse than full blown labor.  She was right!!  But I know to expect it, so my doc gives me a prescription right after I push that baby out.

The pushing is much easier though.  With my first, I pushed for 2 hours.  I thought he'd never come out.  But with the other 4, that part was really quick.

My 1st labor lasted 14 hrs but I had an epidural, so I felt NOTHING! 3 pushes & my 1st baby boy was born. He was 6lbs 8 oz. My 2nd labor was about 5 hrs, 3 pushes & my 2nd baby boy was born. He was 8lbs 6oz. Now, my 3rd was worse. I was in labor for 10 hrs & pushed for probaly 30-40 min before my 3rd baby boy was born. He was 7lbs. 3oz. Now, I'm pregnant w/ my 4th and I hope it doesn't get any worse b/c I had always heard it gets easier, but my 3rd one took the longest.

agree with michele, your body knows what to do but i thought pain was much worse the second time around and even the afterbirth was harder to pass. i mentioned it to my nurse and she says yes, most times the pain with your second third and so on children gets a little harder.

Yes after some fooling around actually....:)  One day before my due date.  My contractions were very light got to the hospital and my water broke.  15 minutes later she was born.  It was crazy!  My doc says generally subsequent babies are much quicker.

I've had 5 and for me the answer is no (as far as pain goes I mean).  But your body will know what to do now.  The first time our bodies go through it, it can take a while.  But once you have done it one time, your body will know exactly what it needs to do.

My second baby came in an hour!  It was awesome.  Much easier for me but my first was only five hours long.  I'm on number 3 and I hope I make it to the hospital if I continue to follow suit LOL:)
