The safest anti-depressant to take during pregnancy

I am on Paxil at the moment.  Getting married in 4 months and would like to switch to a safer med.  I would like to
know the easiest and safest way to wean off and start another.  Which drug would be the best?  My GP is really not
very much help.

Talk to you GP about this.

Darkestlight is correct, Zoloft is a good option and there are several others that are good choices also (prozac, lexapro).  If you can, its best to avoid SSRIs during the 1st trimester.

It is VITAL that you get off paxil before getting pregnant.  This is a Class D drug (known to cause birth defects) and its makers have a class action law suit filed against them.

You can NOT stop Paxil cold turkey - this is VERY dangerous.  Instead, talk to your doctor about a tapering regime.  You will need to wean off it slowly to minimize withdrawal effects.

Best of luck to you and feel free to PM me if you have any other questions (I I busy the next few days and may not get back to this post before then)

I'm not 100% on this but I'm pretty sure that zoloft is the antidepressant of choice for pregnant women.
