Thought For Pregnant Smokers

Hey I was reading the posting for women who are pregnant and trying to quit smoking but can't.  I am not a smoker, so I don't know too much about it, but I wanted to mention something that you may want to look into.  My in-laws are major smokers (1-2 packs per day since their teens and now in their 50's), and they just recently purchased an "electric cigarette."  It looks like a pen and you puff on it just like you would a cig, but there is no tar or smoke -- only nicotine, so it does not effect your lungs the way a normal cig would.  It is also odorless so you can do it indoors and around others without having to step outside.  My mother in law actually told me that she also finds it more satisfying than a regular cig and can go longer between cigs with the electric cig.

Also, from a financial standpoint, it's cheaper.  The replacement nicotine cartridges are cheaper than cigs and the initial cost of the electric cig is quickly recouped.  I figured it out for my mother in law and they make their money back in a month or two.

Now, I am not encouraging indulging in nicotine while pregnant, because of course your baby will be born with the addiction and go through a cold-turkey withdrawl at first, but I thought it would be a futher help to your babies (to eliminate the smoke and tar) and especially if it helps you cut down even more (go longer between cigs).  Still, PLEASE check with your doctor first.  I am not a doctor and maybe there is something I don't know about the electric cig.

i was a smoker before i got pregnant. i started smoking at 17 a pack a day and even more on weekends! i have not had a smoke since the day i found out i was pregnant. i just thought to my self as much as i want one and how much i was craving one my baby didnt have the option of saying no. it was my responsibility not to smoke and pass on the harmful chemicals to my baby. i now have a beautiful 3 week old baby girl and i no longer crave cigs. now all i think to myself is it is no good for my baby if i smoke. it aint going to do her any good cause even if i dont smoke around her she will still smell it on me and breath it in.

good luck to everyone trying to quit. i wish you all the best!

I'm not a smoker either, but thank you very much for this idea!  My husband has smoked for about 30 years and has wanted to quit.  He knows that every puff is shortening his life and tarring up his lungs, but because he's done it for so long, it's really tough for him to quit.  Maybe this would be a good substitute to start him on his quitting journey (and at least get that nasty smell from the smoke and tar out of here! lol)

So thanks again!!  =D
