Hi,
My dad had a similar op a few months ago he had a hernia in his groin. He went in hosp about 8am and was allowed home the same day, He had about a 6inch cut (quite large) that was stapled. My dads a plasterer so his job is manual labour he walked abit wonkey (lol) for about a week and was on painkillers but it was about 3 weeks before he was back to work (after he had staples out ect) As far as i know you have to take it easy for a few weeks after so the staples or stitches split but.
I hope DH is ok!!
Thanks Ivy! Yeah, he woke up yesterday morning feeling like someone had kicked him in the testicles so he went to the doc and they said he has a hernia. He went to a VA doctor, but since this is gonna be workmans comp they are sending him to the company chosen doctor. He's going to do that right now, so we'll see what they say. I figure atleast he's getting a second opinion before they go doing anything drastic. Besides, going to civilian docs he'll probably get better care LOL!
My cousin had it done, but his was complex and he was in bed for the better part of a week...but he was only in the hospital one night.
I think that sweetpea is right it's usually a fairly quick recovery with just a few limitations, but I wouldn't worry - it's kinda like having your appendix out from what I understand, if that helps any.
Sorry about DH's hernia Cass that stinks :-(
Thanks sweetpea! I did a little research myself and pretty much came up with what you said. I know that actual experiences can vary. They are talking about doing outpatient surgery though we don't know if it will be open surgery or laproscopic, nor do we know if they will do a mesh repair or just stitches. I know that my husband was born with a double hernia (we aren't sure what kind) and he has a scar are on either side of his lower abdomen. Hopefully this won't affect his repair and recovery in anyway. Especially since THAT was 36 years ago!
I know someone who had this, though it was years ago so I apologize if I am a little off. The surgery is quite simple and would require no more than a one night hospital stay. Limitations would be to just not be doing heavy lifting for a period of time and then can go back to regular activities. I can look more up later, but that's all I remember off the top of my head. Sorry to hear about this and hope the surgery goes well.
oh boy!! Im sorry about DH:( I have had hernia repair surgery but not that kind so I have know clue on recovery time and what not:( I will keep you guys in my thoughts and prayers!!
