Tylenol Dosage? Caffine?

I am almost 12 weeks pregnant, ftm. I have been experiencing a bad headache for the last week. I know its all associated with the baby in me, when I called my dr. He said because I am in my frist trim. still he doesnt want me to take anything other than tylenol and i can try a little bit of caffine to help. I havent Smoked nor drank any kind of caffine for almost two months. My question is, I am starting to come down with a flu. I am really achy, warm but not feverish. Sneezing alot, cracking voice. I just have that I dont feel good "feel" plus i have the headache on top of it. I have the generic tylenol extra strength 500mg. What do you think is safe for me to take? ( My husband is a super protective man of this baby already, I mean there is no smoking around me, I he cooks all my meats to make sure they are done correctly, He refuses to let me try the caffine, and when it comes to tylenol, he only likes me to take 1 500 dose if i absolutely need it.) Also, when it comes to the caffine, Do you think my dr. suggested it in case i was going through caffine withdrawls. or are there other benefits to drinking a glass of soda, or a cup of coffee when i have a headache. Any advice is appreciated. PLEASE no NEGATIVE COMMENTS REGARDING MY HUSBAND. HE IS A FIRST TIME DAD, AND VERY NERVOUS AND EXCITED, AS IT TOOK THREE YEARS FOR OUR TIME TO COME. Thank you in advance

I too get bad migraines/headaches during pregnancy. I drink a cup of coffee a day and tylenol as needed. All at the advice of my doc. I was/am a big coffee drinker so its detrimental for me to cut it out entirely. I just watch how much caffeine I have. It really helps with the headaches. Best of luck!

Thanks everyone. when I talked to my dr. he said during the first trimester he realy doesnt want me taking anything other than tylenol. So lately I have been just taking one tylenol and sitting in a dark room. I drink so much water in a day. anywhere from 100-150 oz. My dr wants me drinking half my weight in water. I was a person that was huge on soda when i lived in Wisconsin, ( I was like a mountain dew queen, 2-3 bottles of soda a day.. I know bad) however that was like four months ago. When I came here I cut soda down pretty quick ( Here is Alaska) I maybe drank a couple cans of cola a day, sometimes even caffine free stuff. But I always had my coffee in the morning. Once I found out I was pregnant at 5 almost 6 weeks I stopped all caffine completely and was fine, however starting the last week the headaches have come. So I am assuming the caffine would help since I havent really had a problem prior. (Maybe i sneak a cup of coffee while my hubby is at work. lol)

I was just talking to my sis in law about this...she had 4 kids and has always had severe migraines. You can take tylenol with codeine if you need it by doctor prescription. If you normally have caffeine they will tell you to cut it out of your duet to help. If you normally dont, then they will tell you to add it. I trust her considering she had 4 kids in a 8 year timespan and had this issue. As long as you take the Tylenol as directed you should be fine. I found some at rite aide and even asked the pharmacist to make sure there wasn't a filler in the off brands I should be concerned about. Off brand is ok. Acetaminophen is what you want. Good luck!!!

Tylenol is just fine to take as long as you don't exceed 4000mg in a 24 hr period. For headaches drink 8oz of water a can of pop(they recommend no more than 200 mg per day) and take some Tylenol (I usually take 1extra strength) and lay in a dark room til it helps. Good luck!!

Regular strength Tylenol is 375mg, extra strength is 500mg, I recently hadthe same ? For my OB and she said caffeine helps get rid of headaches, so taking Tylenol with some caffeine can help if Tylenol is not helping by it's self 1,500 mg when headach is to horrible 2 handle, but with some caffeine, she told me to try this cause she has another medication 4 headaches but it would make me sleepy, and the last thing I can do around this house is sleep since I have 4 girls and 1 on the way...good luck, Tylenol is safe 2 take but I only take 1 regular strength with water then maybe sip on a coke or some coffee. Cause eventhough docs say its ok 2 take so much everybodys body reacts differently 2 meds so just take it easy!

Taking 2 extra strength is perfectly fine. As that's what my doctor told me to take when pregnant with my daughter. With the caffeine yes it helps with headaches. I have a prescription headache medicine and its first ingredient is caffeine.

Yes. 2 extra strength tylenol are fine regardless of brand. And i have consumed caffiene with BOTH of my pregnancies whenever i wanted it and have had no issues. So a coke mountain dew pepsi dr pepper coffee or any other kind of caffienated beverage (except energy drinks) are ok. You would have to drink an exceptional amount of caffiene in 1 day for it to effect anything.

In my first trimester I suffered bad caffeine with draw. After weeks of trying I eventually reached the point of no caffeine.  I went from drinking 4 cups of anything that contained it to onr to nothing. It was hard but worth it. When I worked overnight for my job I took a pepsi n definitely felt that caffeine high with my baby n myself.  And now im in my last trimester. As far as taking pills. I only did a few times in the begining. So far everything is looking normal but every pregnancy is different. Im sorry im probably not much help but good luck

Just so you guys know, tylenol is just a name brand. What matters is the actual drug used. Acetaminophen is the active drug in tylenol which is safe to use while pregnant. Motrin (active drug Ibuprofen) is frowned upon by some docs so it'd be best to consult your doctor before taking that.

Oh good, Yea I am a stay at home soon to be mom right now, until I can find a job. So if a headache comes, i try to sleep it off. Which I pretty much sleep 24/7, because both i am tired and my head it killing me. I normally take one tylenol when needed, and try to keep things dark around me (Lights make it worse)

** When it comes to the caffine, I was a huge caffine drinker for a long time, then started to cut down when i came to alaska. and then stopped competly when we found out at 5 weeks that i was pregnant. Do you think that caffine would help for any other reason the caffine withdrawls. I havent had a headache since my 6th week. and felt fine other than a few pregnancy symptoms.

Really, lol wow. Apartently Tylenol is a big thing right now. Must be all the holdiay stress. lol jk I had my tylenol from a gas station from like when i was 6 weeks. I was extremely sick with morning sickness. and I had a migrane one day. My husband was out of town and the closest, safest place to drive was the gas station. I paid way to much for it tho. lol Thank you also.

I love my coffee and my doc said caffeine is okay so long as you don't over do it. I was getting really bad migraines and my doc advised me to take 2 extra strength tylenol with my morning cup of joe and they stopped. I don't want to take it every day so now I skip the pills and coffee unless I feel a headache coming. Totally understand your hubby, mine's the same way.

Normally tynanol comes in 200 mg tablets and you should only take the recommended dose, 2 every 4 hours. So one of yours every 4 1/2-5 hours should be fine. You can have up to 300 mg of caffine but its more recommended to keep it to 150 mg.

Before I was pregnate with my son I was on a steroid medication for headaches and I had soda an coffee everyday and I cut all of it cold turkey once I found out I was having a baby at 9wks. But i had such ba headaches that I would cry and scream. So my fiancé called the doctor and said it was okay to take tylonal extra strength and he told me to dosage and that I could drink cola and told me that dosage as well. It won't hurt your baby in anyway as along as you follow the dosage and not over do it.
When I really need it I take 2tylonals.
I have 1-2 colas a day and my doc said that it won't harm him just not to go over the dosage.

I don't take my steroid pill anymore :)
