Ultrasound showed sac but no baby?

The first day of my last period was Feb. 27th 2010. Missed period and took preg test April 10th 2010 and it was negative. Took another on the 16tth of April and it was positive (2 of them and one at the doc the same day). I started spotting brown mucous like about 3 days ago (tues) the next day I went to the restroom and was bleeding slightly pink blood but it was just a little bit and it went right away. My doc sent me to the hospital for bloodwork and ultrasound on Wed and my first offical appt was on Thursday..when i went to the doc he said that the ultrasound only showed a sac but no baby. Now by my LMP i would have been 8 weeks but the sac only measured 5 weeks. The lady that did the u/s said that i would not see a baby at 5 weeks yet. My doc said that his diagnosis is that 90% there will not be a baby bc he didnt see one on the u/s. I just dont think he is right and i think its too early to see the baby...Any suggestions or similar stories...please help:(

Thank you so much for your encouraging words. I have been so worried but still have a lot of hope. I changed doctors today and he is sooo nice. I have my first apt with him on May 11th..he wanted to give me a couple of weeks because he agreed that it was way to early. I am praying everyday and hopeful for some good news then.

I been threw the exact same thing as you, let me tell you something they cant see anything until your about 7wks i mean they can see the gestational sac but there not gonna see a yolk sac or hear the heart beat until 7 to 8wks. They kept telling me every week i was having a misscarriage and they even suggested that they start the process of scraping me out, now you no i was not trying to hear that because i had that done before and trust me it's awlful so i just kept going back every week until they heard a heart beat. I was seven weeks pregnant like i said and the doctor's was so happy when they heard the heart beat because they put me threw so much pain and agony that they new something great had to come out of this, anyways your gonna be find gongrats and keep me informed of how things turn out.

i can understand. well at least you know it simply could be off dates! i am 33 weeks pregnant with my second child, it never took more than one cycle for us to succeed in getting pregnant but i still worry about something happening so i can imagine how more protective you are. if anything bad did happen, at least you know you had hope after a year of trying :) i wish you the best of luck and keep your chin up & fingers crossed, stress is not good :) xo

Thank you for answering. I have always had irregular periods..every since i was a teenager. My cycle wasn't always 28 days lol sometimes it could be 30 to 45 days. This is my second pregnancy and I am just hoping that nothing bad happens and that we are just off on our dates and its too early to see. I still have the brown spotting but its not heavy..i dont even need to wear a pad or anything..My husband and I have been trying for over a year now and it just would break my heart for anything to happen

i never seen a baby at 6 weeks, just an empty sac. so at 5 weeks, its smaller again. the doctor may have thought of it as being 8 weeks along in the pregnancy, instead of 5. it sounds like you may have ovulated later/have a menstrual cycle of 5 weeks. they usually say you are 4 weeks pregnant by the time you have missed your period, when you may only be carrying the baby about 2 weeks, so if you have a 5 week cycle you are said to be 5 weeks pregnant but still only carrying the baby for 2 weeks. if you are always on a 4 week cycle, this may be a slower developing foetus/not growing correctly which may result in a miscarriage, which is what your doctor may be getting at but you will not know until you either start bleeding badly or have another scan. sometimes women can miscarry and not bleed at all, called a missed misscarriage, but all going well your scans can turn out fine :) good luck xo
