Weird Question

I'm a deer hunter. I have been for nearly 10 years. By the time hunting season opens I will be 6 months pregnant.  Now, I'm not banking on there being many hunters on here so this is quite a long shot but my question is;
Is it safe to shoot a gun while pregnant?

Well, I have spoken with both my pediatrician and my baby doctor. They are totally cool with it! I've got tons of rifle experience and training from my Marine husband. My first doctor said that he forbids tree stands which is no problem and that field dressing the deer must be done by my husband to prevent bacteria from getting into my blood stream. Dragging the deer is also out of the question.
My second doctor stated that as long as I protect the baby by wearing extra garb around my ever growing tummy, there should not be a problem. She was much more relaxed about it than anticipated but then again she also seemed caught off guard by the question ha ha.
I'm excited for the good news! :) had the echo yesterday. Baby had a 145 heart beat yesterday!

I shot guns daily.  Id say a light poweres one.  Suxh as  22 woulsnt hurt any.  But id be afraid a muzzleloader wpuld be to powerful if it jolts u at all.  Same as shot gun id say it depends on the  jolt depending on sizd of shell.  But youv always did it.  Iys not a new hobby to u.  I say ask about a muzzleloader or shot gun before u use it

I'm from pa and feel your pain! My doctor as well as anything I can find on the internet says that you can shoot, but not large calibers, whether it be a pistol, a long gun, or whatever. Obviously the recoil is a major issue but the reason they say to only shoot things like .22 is actually because the noise effects the baby. You could probably get away with small game depending what your state laws are but no deer hunting this year for these mommas :P

Yes you can shoot a gun while pregnant! We went target practicing all the time with my daughter! No you cannot hunt in a tree stand.Sorry I never ask about ground hunting since tree stands are all bfs family uses. Idk if thats even what its called lol bc its literally JUST tree stands here. However, I think the concern might be more about getting tripped or losing footing or bc your ligaments become lazy when pregnant possibly injuring something. But yes, you can shoot while pregnant.

I'm 8 months and personally shoot shotguns and rifles for targets and hunting. I use  .20 and a .17 every weekend without issue although my balance has been off so I just have to brace myself for the kick which isn't very much.

I plan to continue hunting up until labor, and using a tree stand kinda cancels out the risk of your gun knocking you over if you use one like me.

I don't see a problem with it as long as you aren't climbing up in the stand or the kick back isn't bad.. I'd ask your Dr just in case!

I'm in the same boat, I'll be about 6 months during rifle season and unless I'm having complications I'm going out. My dr told me it's pretty much up to me. If I feel up to it I'll be fine. Just make sure you wash your hands after handling your ammo because of it being lead. There's been a few women in my family that hunted while pregnant and didn't have any issues. Goodluck with whatever you decide hun!

Different people have different outcomes. Just because one person had nothing happen doesn't mean someone else will have the same luck. Id think handguns would be okay if careful. But not the type of guns you want to hunt with. Keep in mind also, the farther along you get, the looser and more fragile your joints are all over your body. They soften big time. So using a gun like that could easily dislocate your shoulder(even when not pregnant), but much easier while pregnant. Talk to your doc but I wouldn't risk it. There's always next year. There's a lot we have to give up unfortunately lol but it's only 9 months.

My aunt went hunting both times she was pregnant and her kids turned out just fine.  On top of that she's a nurse so I would think she would know if it was OK or not. I guess it's up to you and what your doctor says. I think if you feel like you can,  more power to you! I'm a deer hunter too and unless I was 8 months+ I would be out there. Just saying.

I will be between 7 and 8 months when I hunt here in Michigan for gun season. I am going. You're just supposed to wear layers to help with the sound and not use lead ammo. My doctor recommended not going to a firing range though. Because you're shooting more than one shot at a time.

Im a big deer hunter too....it depeneds what season you hunt in. Such as muzzle loader season....I like that one but the kick back is to powerful and will seperate the placenta from the uterine wall...just depends on kick back of the gun

I can still go hatchling hunting, thats strictly relocating the baby gators so it doesn't get over populated in one area, but as for wrestling or shooting the beast, my doctor says no, it can stress your baby out and lead to premature birth, or worse. But every doctor is different and will have different advice, so I would ask before taking any advice on here seriously. Not saying ANYONE on here is wrong, it's just better to have a professional opinion.

The noise won't hurt the baby.  They're very well protected in there.  My dr said it was fine to go to the shooting range, but your gun sounds more powerful!  I'd ask to be sure. I went to a monster jam show (with loud monster trucks) and it was safe. When in doubt,  just ask your dr.

Well it depends on what kind of gun you are shooting really. If you are shooting a hand gun then yes, it is aim breath and fire. With a shoulder stock gun of any kind, you have to have the butt of the gun pressed hard on your shoulder at the time of firing or it is going to feel like you just got punched...really hard. My concern comes from a shoulder stock type gun. They tend to be much louder and the one I have could knock you on your butt if you aren't careful. I've also heard some things about lead poisoning and from extra reloads. On top of that, some worry about how the noise can hurt the hearing of the baby.
