Mine was 5lb 10 oz, full term baby and he had to wear premies clothes and diapers for several weeks. Every baby is different. My adivse is not to buy too much ahead of time.
My son and daughter were both born at 37 weeks and they were 8lbs 21 inches (boy) and 8 lbs 5oz and 20.5 inches. Both were chunky babies and both in preemie outfits for the first few weeks. My daughter who is now two is still in a 12 months waist. and needs a 2T length. All little ones I have see are in preemies for atleast a week then newborns for a week and then 0-3 for about 3 months. The clothes you will get the most out of is usually 3-6 and 6-9 months. Good Luck to all of you!
Hoping for baby #3
My daughter was born at 35 weeks and was 7lbs 15ozs and 21 inches long. She was big for only 35 weeks, but very very small. All the 0-3 months clothes was kinda big on her for the first few days. All babies like pregnancies are different though*
-I like em big- Im 25 weeks with my second -a boy- and Im hoping he's bigger and longer than my daughter was four years ago* =]
my son weighed 8 lbs but was 22 and a half inches long. He was too long for the newborn outfit. Always take extras just in case.
hi im from australia and im pregnant with bub four, all my bubs were average size. id say get some 0000 clothes and newborn nappies. the nappies look tiny but they will swim on bub. dont go overboard though, as tempting as it seems because in a few weeks youll be needing 000 clothes. good luck.
I usually get them from Target. My MIL is saying how stupid it is and how nothing I got will fit and told me the newborn nappies I got were ridiculously small and would fit a doll. Some people say 0000 and some say 00..I'm not sure..
My son was full term and born 7 lb 4 oz and we actually had him in some preemie clothes at first!!!! It was funny:)
you know, i've bought alot of stuff on clearance(i got it like that lol), and like the carter's brand, is like 2 inches shorter than the target brand clothes when it comes to infants! i bought a "circo" onesie, and then a "george" onesie, and sure enough, they are both newborns, and guess what! one inch diff in width(left to right), and 2 inches in length(collar to buttons)
so some of it looks way too small, some of it looks way too big lol.....
so i hear your confusion!
I thought that the average size of a new born is 7lb and 21inches long. My son was 8lb 3oz and 22 inches
i have brought 0000 as the smallest size for baby's jumpsuits. just rmember different brands might look different sizes even though they say they are the same size.
I agree, baby's will fit into newborn clothes for the first couple weeks anyway!! I just wouldn't buy a whole bunch of newborn clothes and diapers. Start getting some 0-3 clothes and some size 1 diapers also!
Average newborn size is around 7 lbs and 20 inches long. Those little newborn outfits are usually too big on them.
I realize you're in AU and I don't know your system of weight. But babies are definitely TINY when they are born!
You think they look small now, but your baby will be swimming in them! My son weighed 8lb 10oz and newborn clothes were loose on him. I brought some outfits to the hospital thinking that they would fit and he was 6-8 weeks old before they looked OK on him.
Babies come in all sizes...I would say 6-9lbs is average...which is a wide range!
