When did you start to buy items for the baby

I am 13w today and was just wondering when I should start buying things for the baby.  We are definitely looking for good deals and know that if we happen to find one, we will get what we can...  But when did you actually start purchasing stuff that you know you will need - such as baby monitors and diapers and stuff...

I started buying stuff as soon as I found out I was pregnant, just little deals here and there though.  I would wait until after your baby shower to see what people get you, then you can buy whatever else you need.  I received most of my stuff at my baby shower, people are usually very giving when it's your first child.  Another thing I suggest telling people not to get you clothes, because they still will and you will still have too much, lol. And if you know people are getting you diapers or you yourself see any on sale, don't be hesitant to get different sizes.

Well to be honest, when i got off birthcontrol i bought what i call a starter set, things that dont expire or things you will use. I was not even preggo until a year later, then had a m/c. I will probably buy things once i get 14 weeks, im very particular in the things i want, for example i want this circle crib, it is so awsome, and the price is, umm i wont say, but my sisters said they will pitch in to help me get it. I have a big family on my mom and dad side, and they are real good in getting gifts so im sure i will get most of the stuff i need. I bought my cousin a eddie bauer high chair, it was a wooden one, it was so cute(it was on her list) and when i was preggo the last time she said why dont you come get the high chair, we cant use it anymore, and it dont even look like her son used it, well he was a big baby at birth, but i think i will be picking it up.

But, you can never have to many diapers or onsies so it want hurt to buy those items. And besides, i never heard anyone say, i got so many diapers at my shower i didnt have to buy any lol. When i go to showers i always buy size 3&4's bcuz everyone buys newborn or size 1 and forget about later on. So go buy you some diapers:)

I didn't buy anything until after my baby shower either. I got pretty much everything! It can be really hard not to though because it's so exciting to buy stuff for the baby!

Target is great but you need to compair the prices.  Target tends to cost more than walmart.  For example... the fisher price rain forest crib bedding is 69.96 at walmart.com.  That same set at Target.com is 129.99.  I hope this helps, Anita

well, once we are comfortable that everything is going to be okay, we are going to start buying 1 thing of formula every time we go to the store, as well as diapers. if the baby cant use the formula we can exchange it.as far as all the big things such as crib, travel system, ect we wont have to worry about because between my family and my husbands we will get all of that stuff. my mother in law buys the crib set and pack and play when each of her grandchildren are born.

I made by baby registry at wal-mart.com not long after getting my BFP.  I posted ads craigslist.com saying that I'm SEEKING-Fisher Price Rain forest collection.  I posted pics and links showing every thing that I'm looking for.  So far I got a free mobile, diaper genie, toys, 2 cribs... one for here, an one for my in laws, travel swing, blankets, breast pump, and crib sheets.  I have been looking for the bigger stuff like the swings ( tall an travel ), bouncer, bedding, stroller, mobile, bassinet, play pen, etc.  I don't think I will get much of the big stuff at my baby shower.  Its going to be at my church an every one has money problems since hurricane Gustav.  I buy a 3$ onesie every time I go to wal-mart.  They are very cute.    I love shopping for my little guy.  Antia

I had bought a couple little things here and there...from my bfp and on.  When we found out it was a boy, we got a stuffed monkey like dh had when he was a little boy and so on.  It is soooo hard not to buy stuff but I am waiting until after my shower to buy anything...My first shower is Saturday and then I have a small one with family in February and work will throw me one in March or April.  If you register at Babies R Us, and you don't get something bought off of your registry, they send you a coupon to use towards anything you didn't get but wanted and its like 10% off.

I have been looking at Craigslist everyday looking for mildly used stuff but I haven't bought anything yet.  I was just casually talking to my friend about it and she told me that a lot of her friends have baby stuff that they are giving away so she's going to give me her crib, baby carrier and a bunch of other stuff.  So I guess I'm going to hold off on getting stuff until I know what she's getting for me.
Its not like we can't afford to buy new stuff, its just that I think its wasteful to spend money on brand new things that the baby will outgrow really fast when you can get mildly used stuff in very good condition for a 10th of the original cost.
I would suggest to wait a little longer if you can.  I know its almost irressistible!
