Just a rant...

So I'm a hairdresser and I'm on my feet 7 hours a day 4 days a week. I'm 32 weeks pregnant and I try to schedule clients so I have at least a little break in between to sit and eat something. I used to be able to double book clients (when one client's color is processing, I would do another client's hair) but now I need to have that processing time to rest. My boss decides to give me 1 hour and 45 minutes to do a haircut, color and highlight, something that usually takes me 2-2 1/2 hours, and just says "oh well I figure you can start your other client while her color is processing, then when you're done with her you'll be ready to finish this first one". I wanted to scream! She didn't ask me at all! And I'm not one to call and reschedule clients so I just deal with it. My back was exceptionally pained today as well as my feet, so now I'm at home with a heating pad on it. If she expects me to be able to work as close to my due date as possible, she's going to need to give me breaks and not overbook me! I'm going to tell her from now on NO MORE DOUBLE BOOKING!! UGH!

I think working up to 38 weeks (unless I go sooner) is long enough. I'd hate to have clients scheduled later than that and go into labor early. I mean, I'm sure they'd understand, but still. Really hoping that being on my feet and gravity will move things along and I'll be able to have this little bean before 40 weeks!

I wish you luck. My last pregnancy I worked in an ER, 12 hr graveyard shifts 4 times a week. I worked up till 36 weeks when I slipped and thru out my back and needed an emergency c-section. My boss was not nice about it. I don't work there anymore.  Employers can be tough especially when they work a desk job and don't know how it really its.

How long do you hairdresser ladies plan to work during your pregnancy? I keep telling my client when they ask 'as long as I'm physically able' so that leaves it open ended. So far, my last scheduled appointment is the Saturday I hit 38 weeks, and I think that's kind of pushing it especially with how much back pain I have already at 32 weeks.

Im a hair stylist as well and I always make sure I dont do more than two haircuts in a row without a break to eat, bathroom etc..  I do more color and cuts tham anything though which is much better since I have processing time to sit.. No double booking..its to hard prego and you need to take it easy as much as possible..your boss needs to understand that.. Wishing you a fabulous rest of your pregnancy:)

I feel your pain. I'm a hairdresser too. (First time mommy) I work in a salon that does only hair cuts...a normal shift (6hr)I could do up to 30 people! I have noticed the pain and exhaustion setting in! I am figured I am just gonna have to be blunt and to the point with my boss about shorter shifts and mandatory breaks (there's days were we don't even get lunch because we are so busy) and if she can't give it to me I will just have to talk to the doctor and get a note that says I need such requirements! Just be honest and straight forward with your boss and if that doesn't work talk yo your doctor...in the end your health effect the baby's health and there is no reason to risk you or your baby's health! Good luck and please keep us posted!

With my first baby I was workin as a hair dresser and my boss used to pull the same stunts on me. My advice is make sure u wear comfy shoes and if u can get a chair thats higher so that u can at least sit down when u do some of your work. And keep snacks and water close by til u can take a break that really helps

I swear some people just don't understand. My boss had a desk job 32 years ago when she was pregnant with her son, so she has NO CLUE what it's like to be pregnant and constantly on your feet. It's rough..

I work with the developementally disabled so when I'm at work I am running a second household and last night my feet were so swollen and red my husband thought they were bruised so I was whining about having to climb the stairs and today we got in an argument and he tells me how he has to get everything for me and I cry about having to walk upstairs meanwhile his useless *** doesn't even work! Some people are just really insensitive.
