Worried :( please help

So my baby is 4 weeks old and his soft spot is dipped, I know this is a sign of dehydration but he's been feeding every 2-3 hours, has had 5/6 wet diapers and 3 dirty nappies in 12 hours, his wee doesn't look dark or anything. He has been warm for the most of today could this be why? What do you mommies think?

I wouldn't be taking rectal temps. Alot of pediatricians advise against it due to the the risk of damage to the rectal wall. In the hospitals I live near they don't do it anymore at all. General axillairy. Just look up online what the difference in temperatures should be.

This happens to my baby boy too but i take his temperature in his butt and he is fine. When he pees alot i notice the soft spot on his head to dip and after i feed him a lot but not to much it goes back tonnormal.  If he is alert and happy then i highly doubt their is something wrong. If he is sleeping more than normal and crying and not himself then their is something wrong.

Doulamommy is right, even for formula fed babies no water should be given before 6 months of age. Also a thermometer is something you really need to have in the house. A rectal temp of 100.4 or higher in an infant under 12 weeks (unless in response to vaccines) needs to be addressed right away.

I'd get a thermometer and check. Cvs or Walgreens or Wal-Mart should have a basic thermometer for ten bucks or less. When a baby is that little, even a low grade fever can be deadly or cause permanent damage.

Right okay, yeah he's exclusively breastfeeding. I don't know his temp cos I don't have a thermometer :( he feels very warm to the touch but the house is very warm?

No! No water if you're exclusively breastfeeding. What is his temp like? I'd call your pediatrician about his symptoms but I wouldn't worry too much as long as he's happy, eating well, and producing wet and dirty diapers.

Thanks bevnunez. My2lovebugs, she didn't say anything about water because he feeds so much, he puts on 1lb 3oz a week. Should I try water?
