Vitamin E oil if they are dry or hurt, wipe off before you nurse.(liquid form or break open a capsule and apply as needed). I used cabbage when they were sore (just a piece big enough to cover the areola and nipple) and it worked like a miracle (it leaves a mark on your areola from the cabbage and my baby though it was strange a few times, but don't worry) Some say it can "dry you up", but I did it for a Week and I am still breastfeeding at eighteen months with no problems. Watch to make sure your baby does not hang off the areola when he falls asleep. Take it easy mama you can do it!!! I would wait to side lye until you and baby have mastered nursing this is where I had my only issue.
Breastfeeding is not easy it takes time and work. You may benefit from a lactation consultant which are free to see. I'm 6 weeks pp and I stopped breastfeeding at 5 weeks(this was my plan the entire time) I now pump and feed. Get a good nipple cream I only used it for the first 3 weeks. And breast pads are a good idea. I buy the 100ct target brand. Just remember it does get easier so don't give up. My first week was horrific because I wasn't having homnlatch right. I watched YouTube videos on it and saw a consultant. The second week was sooooooo much better.
What sort of pain are you getting? I still get pain when he first latches cos he's pulling my nipple out further. If you don't have pain when he's sucking he's latched right, you'll still be able to feel him sucking. If it does hurt, get your pinky finger and feel for your nipple in his mouth and pull it out and try latching again. You might need to help him out a little, you can do this by grabbing your boob around the areola and squishing it so its easier to squish in his mouth, this way he'll have a mouth full of boob and your nipple which will help :) you could always try different positions as well, my by feeds better when I'm lying down on my side with him on his side as well :)
Take a breastfeeding class they help alot trust me only they know(: i would listen to many ppl give me advice on how i should do it then just last week i took a class and i learn so much and its a fun class((:
What about the pain? Or knowing he latched right
Be patient, for me breastfeeding didn't become fully established til he was 13 days old, but he's now 4w4d and it's so easy :) stick at it momma it will become easier :) believe in yourself and your little one :)
