As you can see everyone does something different becauseall drs and kids are different. You really need to talk to your dr and it dependes on the development ofthe child. Sitting up is a big sign. If they are sitting up or almost sittng up on their own hen they are most likely ready to start cereal. it should be quite runny t first and as they get good with this you thicken it with more cereal.
As for fruit and veggies, I do not use baby food. There is this really cool gadget you can get at walmart by Kid Co., that is like a foodmill. It turns everything into the consistancy of baby food. They have an electric one and a manual one. I have a manual one and it is great. It makes bananas so smooth. Also sweet potatoes are easy if you boil them and them put them through the mill. This saves money, and makes the food healthier for baby... Just another suggestion, but do tak with your pediatrician for advice.
Hope this helps..

Honestly my doctor told me that food is not necessary at all until 12 months. Their digestive systems are still immature. Not to mention that they get ALL of their required nutrients and food through breastmilk/formula.

I didn't know this when my firstborn was little so she got food around 5-6 months. My youngest, however, ate table food at 10-12 months. She did have a couple bites of baby food just to try it out and HATED it. I saved so much money not buying baby food!

Everyone is different but you may have a gassier baby on your hands and stinkier diaps! It's exciting to start feeding them food, though. They get so messy and cute and some babies eyes just get huge with excitement. It's all up to you. You know your baby better than anyone else.

What was right for my firstborn was not right for my 2nd. Good luck!

Talk to your doctor about this. I got this food guide after I delivered my baby here is what it says:

How to tell if my baby is ready for solids?

Your baby is ready to start eating solids when she:

-is six months old
-holds her head up
-sits up in a high chair
-opens her mouth wide when you offer food on a spoon
-turns her face away if she doesn't want food
-closes her lips over the spoon
-keeps food in her mouth and swallows it instead of pushing it out

My granddaughter was started on cereal at 4 months, (per her doctor), but she got very fussy and gassy.  My daughter stopped it for a couple of weeks and the Ped said to try Oatmeal instead.  She is now 5 1/2 months and has done very well on that cereal.  They also said that fruits or veggies can be added after 1-2 weeks, to make sure the oatmeal wasn't a problem.  She is now feeding her some fruit and will start veggies soon.  As long as you give at least 3 days in between new foods, it should be ok, if your doctor approves.

I took Isaiah to the doctor today and she said it was fine to start veggies and cereal.  As long as your baby is a supported sitter and opens his mouth when his lips are touched

Its ok to start at 4 month of you think your child is ready but a lot of peds recommend waiting until 6 months since everything is more fully developed then. Its always best to talk to your ped that way they can put you onto some type of feeding schedule. Usually though its rice cereal followed by oatmeal or mixed cereal for the first month, second month veggies (introducing a new veggie every couple of days that way if there is an allergic reaction you know which food it came from, then fruits the next month introducing a new one every couple of days, then lastly is meats the next month.

I think it depends.. I have no first hand experience yet (I am due in Jan.) BUT my 3 closest girl friends have children and I have asked  similar questions, and it seems they all introduced rice cereal around 4 months and followed closely in the weeks to follow with other solid food.

Someone else mentioned talking to your Ped. which is a great idea! I think it varies and I think that perfectly healthy babies usually start around 4 months! Good luck!

My son will be 4 months on the 22nd.. at 9 weeks he was taking 48oz of formula which my dr said it too much and that the max is around 32oz, so he had me cut the formula down to 32oz and if he was still hungry to start rice cereal in the mornings and at night.. so thats what i did.. he does extremely well with it and really likes it.. i took him to the dr yesterday for a cold and he was at 16lbs and the dr said i could go ahead and start some solid foods with him.. he is also both of my neices dr which he said to start them at 4 months as well..

Starting solids is def something you should discuss with your Ped. My son has severe reflux so he was started on solids at 4 months! We started with Rice Cereal then green beans, peas then Oatmeal cereal! Now I am moving to carrots! I would talk to the ped! They normally discuss this at the 4 month shot and wellbaby appointment!

my son will be 5 months on the 17th and I have been giving him cereal for about a month now and he loves it, and does really well with it.  I am taking him the doctor tomorrow for a weight check and I am going to ask if he can start veggies, I think that he is very ready.
