small baby..........what happens if??

my consultant tells me if my baby is measured to b very small, he will intervene and deliver it. Is this normally a c section or will he induce labour normally??? surely if the baby is small it would be easier on it to be a c section??

confused thanks for any help!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My baby is measuring small too (18th percentile last time I had an ultrasound) I will also be induced.. My doctor did a non stress test at my last appointment to make sure he could handle contractions well and everything.. He passed so she is planning a vaginal delivery by induction if he doesn't make an appearance on his own sometime soon.

With every delivery it is different but like martikadragoon said they will probably induce unless there is heart decels or other problems durring labor! Only your doctor will be able to tell so I would call and express your concern!

My husband weighed in at 4 pounds when he was born.  (He was full term but had the characteristics of a premie.)  They did a c-section but that was 29 years ago.  I would talk to your doctor more about it and tell him your concerns.

Littlemissno~ Honestly. They'd induce first, and then if it became too hard on the baby. like heart decels or something, then they'd either try to get you delivered vaginally even faster if it was time.. usually using forceps or a vaccum, and if it wasn't soon enough for that they'd go ahead with an emergency or stat csection.

The size just makes it easier for a vaginal delivery. My son was born at 5lbs5oz via csection due to no fluid. we knew we'd have a csection anywayse because  he had my skin problem. but if the next baby is normal I'll have a vaginal birth.

i would think induce and then go from there to see if you need a csection  my babies are small, 5lbs 2 oz and 5 lbs 12 oz when they were born!
