ma daughter is a week old n i breastfeed but i also give her formula at lease once a day so when i go back to work she wont give her father a had time when he feed her. she is doing very well with both of them.
Firstly, eating anything whether it's formula or breast milk will help get rid of jaundice. Second, it's totally fine to supplement with formula. They actually make special formulas specifically for moms who wish to supplement, I plan on doing the same thing when my baby is born.
That's really all they need for now. You can pump it if you want or just do what I did. Start hiding in a room by yourslef. lol Warm compresses also help.
You can pump if you are only doing colostrum. Just don't save it. Pumping will help bring in your regular milk faster. The doctors actually made me BC my daughter had jondis and the regular breastmilk is a cure for it.
Its easier on their digestove system especially newborns to breastfeed fully. Formula can be a little harsh, but u got to do what works for u. If u have to supplement with formula ur baby will still be fine. But also, girl do not worry about whose around or whose looking when its time for baby to eat! I always used a burp rag or swaddling blanket to cover over my shoulder down to my boob and let her breastfeed like that when i was in public or around people in my house that i didnt want to be exposed to. :-)
Moms do both all the time. Do you have a lactation doctor there? Ask them what they think but I'm pretty sure its fine. Good luck :)
