I bf and pumped ALOT because I had to return to work after 12 weeks there's nothing bad or uncomfortable with pumping as long as u have the right size flange and manual worked better for me than electric too ur insurance should pay for a pump. But like others have said if u supplement it can hurt ur supply and if if u skip feedings or pumping u can give urself mastitis OUCH I had it like 3xs and Im gonna avoid it at all costs! only time my son got formula was about a month after I had him and got mastitis for the 1st time and they put me antibiotics where I had to pump n dump not only was he more fussy but when I was able to feed again he fought the bottle for a very long time after I returned to work
@sonotech
My daughter took pumped milk in a bottle perfectly... until I had to have surgery and she was given formula while I was in the hospital for three days! She never took a bottle again so I had to work really hard to get my supply back!
It's completely up to you. From my experience, my kids wouldn't take the formula. I think it's because breast milk has a sweeter taste than formula. The only time they ever accepted formula was in their first days of life before my milk came in. So if your baby accepts formula, go for it. But like someone above said, supplementing frequently will lower your milk supply. Good luck.
It's easier to pump for date night than to lose your supply because you supplement for date night. I breastfeed. I'm a stay mostly at home mom and got a cheap hand pump that was quick and worked better for me than the expensive electric pumps did. I am very pro breast milk. There are several studies (paid for by formula companies mind you) proving that breast milk is far superior to formula.
That's not to say that you're a horrible woman if you choose to bottle feed from the start, but if you can, breast really is best.
I'm hoping to do both. .I'm thinking of pumping but at times when there's no time for that and I'm out or like you say with his dad I'd like him to be used to formula too...
I wanna just breast feed because supplementing wth formula causes ur breast milk supply to run low and the baby might even start rejecting the bbreast. It also could really start upseting their tummy. If u want whats best, pump pump pump.
I am strictly breast anytime anywhere. My sister in law does both.
