Talked to the moms about positioning and latch, talked to the dads about ways to be supportive and what to watch out for in a new mom (postpartum depression, mastitis, etc), talked to both about how to tell when things are going well and how to fix it if they aren't. Talked about yeast and inverted nipples and low supply and oversupply. Had an experienced mom come in with her baby to demonstrate a good latch. All kinds of good stuff.
The birthing center I delivered at and took classes at also offered a weekly breastfeeding support group I attended for several months after my son was born - it was a great opportunity to get questions answered by a nurse and IBCLC and also to get to know other moms with babies the same age as mine. I developed an awesome nursing relationship with my son and nursed for two full years before I had to wean him when I needed to take a strong antibiotic for a week and my supply dried up from lack of nursing.
I didn't take the class. In my county the breastfeeding consultant could come to ur house and show u what to do if u couldn't get to the class. I had mine come by twice to help me. I breastfeed my son until he was 1 and I plan to do the same with this baby too.
