It's a tossup. I went in for a blood test a week before Christmas. I didn't get my results back until 2 days ago. I realize that's a bit extreme but most ladies on here will tell you blood work typically still takes a minimum of 2-3 days, more if the lab is backed up. So either way, you're going to be waiting a little while, and home tests are cheaper and easier.

Five days really isn't all that late -- I've been as much as 10-14 days late just from illness or stress, many times. I agree with waiting a few days and trying again at home.

If you have good insurance and can't stand it, go ahead and go in, but recognize that you aren't going to see anything on an ultrasound (I had one! but thought I was farther along), so all they can really do is take your blood or make you pee in a cup anyway.

At this point you are five days late. If I were you I would test again in a couple of days, even better if you can wait a week. If you are pregnant it takes time for the hormones to rise in your body and until they are at a certain level you are not going to get a positive test. I would wait it out another week and re-test vs. going to the Dr. right away and testing. If you are still getting negative test and no period in another week or two then I would go to the Dr.  And if you did get a faint line then all it will take is a few more days and the line will get darker.

Hi, I'm new to this but i just wanted to say that you may want to go to the dr and let them do a preg. test. I was 2 months prego with my son (but didn't know at the time) and the @ home test showed negative. But I went to the dr. a week after i had taken the test and I was 2 months preg.

A missed period doesn't for sure mean you are pregnant, even symptoms don't mean it for sure. How late are you? When did you test? Wait a week and test again, and if it's still negative wait to see if you get your next period and if not see your doctor.
