catheter?

Is a catheter optional? The idea of having one during labor is horrifying to me. That area is having enough goung in down there and I dont want it! Even if I get an epidural? I would seriously rather pee myself then have one.

You don't get it after a vaginal delivery you get it removed. I didn't even feel it get removed. And if your really worried about it then don't get an epidural and you can go pee on your own. I would rather get it than smell like urine especially since I couldn't shower until the next day and if someone would've tried cleaning me up down there so I didn't smell I probably would've punched them in the face.

It seriously isn't that bad. I had to have one when I had surgery a couple weeks ago.  Mind you, I was knocked out with anesthesia when they did it, but I am positive that if you get an epidural they will put that in first, then the catheter so you don't feel it. Once it's in you're not gonna feel it anywaye because you'll be numb from the epidural.  I wasn't numb after surgery and still had the catheter and could barely even feel it. When it's taken out, it's really no big deal, it takes like 5 seconds. I wouldn't stress about it if I were you

Ask your doctor to ease your worries next time u go in. I had an ovarian surgery back in Oct.. Only reason why I've experienced one alrdy.. Ftm here. And I had the epi done which I didn't feel they just had me sit bend over a nurse w me in the front. And the man giving me the epi massaged the area I didnt even feel it and they layed me down. I hope they can fine his name on my paper word and he's working the day of my labor he did a grt job. I remember my body numbed up within seconds and after that don't remembered nothing til I woke up in the recovery room. Didn't even know I had a catheter in me. That night I did wish I could pee alone remember saying I feel like peeing can I just get up on my own she was like you are peeing it takes it for u u just don't feel it haha. I was like oops. You'll be fine its nothing. Just when they take it out youre uncomfy for two seconds plus on meds so its fine like I said. Just ask your doctor to see if u have a choice .. Don't know the answer to that. I have ocd specially w bathrooms and urine smells so I would get it cause I don't wanna pee on the bed I'll be laying in for a few days lol. Good luck.

I have nightmares about them putting it in and not being numb and taking it out after the baby is born. Like I said that area is already going to be a train wreck and it doesn't need anymore trama!   They can't make me get one right?  Even if I get the epidural? I have the right to refuse it? Im more worried about this then labor its self.

Where I am they do not give you one just cos you're in labour.. Don't know about epidurals.. Only time I know is if you have to go into Theatre for some reason after baby. So I wouldn't worry :)

Im about to ask my doctor that the next time I see her. I have bladder conditions that become very irritated and nake it impossible for me to urinate on my own once the catheter is removed! I will do whatever I can to refuse a catheter, like you id rather pee on myself or wear a diaper even
