cigarettes and pregnant?

I am 22 yrs old and am 19weeks and 2 days preg. I have been a smoker since I turned 18. I grew up with a father who smoked faithfully and his side of the family had more smokers then my mom's.I always hated smelling the smoke from his cigs, when I rode in the car with him. He never smoked in the house.
Anyways I do feel bad every time I light up. But it's an addiction of mine. Like the only bad one...I drink water, fruit juices, & milk. I even eat healthy. I'm having so much trouble not smoking and it puts so much stress on me I have yet to quit. Help!  So my question is do any of u smoke and have any succeeded at quitting. I need positive feedback pls...I've been debating whether to even post this kind of topic since so many ppl make smokers out to be careless mothers who care nothing of their unborn child's well being. Believe me when I say this is not the case.

With u being that far along and still smoking I would talk to your doctor cause I have heard that depending on how much you smoke its dangerous to go cold turkey cause it puts stress on the baby. I had a friend that smoked so heavily and then found out she was pregnant her doctor tried to help her quit but in the end the doctor just wanted her to lighten up on smoking but she smoked through her pregnancy her daughter is fine but she was on the smaller side at birth

My dad would suck the juice out of organs to help him quit. Hew went from a carton a day to none, quit cold turkey. As with any addiction you have to want to quit and then take active steps to do so, forgiving yourself for the times you slip up. You can do even if your man doesn't. Although he may surprise you and quit with you, you never know.

Thank u guys for all the feedback. Another thing is my babys daddy is a smoker as well and we live together. It is his choice to quit ornot and I really believe he won't lol. We smoke outside of our house but knowing he is going out for a cig makes the pressure of.Choosing not to go with him even greater. I've been to the doc twice and he is all about me quitting. Bit he feels it should be done naturally. Which is hard.  So many ppl have told me how they smoked and everything was fine with their child and theirs ppl who do everything right and have complications.  I almost feel like giving up...bit no matter what ide always feel like what if.

Hey. I'm currently 26 weeks pregnant and have unfortunately not been able to kick my habit. I have cut down but i can't completely stop.. don't let anybody pass judgement on you. It's your baby and your body. Obviously not smoking would be ideal but if u can't pack it up don't punish yourself. I currently smoke around 10 a day and i know my little boy is healthy. Good luck :) x

Believe me i understand how tough it is quitting. My husband has been trying to get me to quit since we got married four years ago, and I would have panic attacks trying... not over the cigarette just not knowing how to deal with life without a cigarette.

Congrats and good luck with everything!  And like said just talk to your doctor. If he/ she can't help you then they should be able to point you to someone who can.

When my mom was pregnant with me, her dr told her that the stress of quitting would do more damage then cutting back. So she cut back. She smoked three a day I think. I don't have any health problems associated with it but I know it is bad for baby. Just talk to your dr and get the professional opinion

I have cut back a lot...but some days are harder then others. When I was 8 weeks I was going though some bad morning sickness n the smell made me sick...so that has helped me cut back. But one or ten cigs, I'm still smoking. I find the sex out in 8 days. I also get to see my baby for the first time. I'm excited but scared all in one. Of course I hope for a healthy child.

I'm twenty four and have smoked since I was eighteen. I also self harmed since I was fifteen. I found out about two weeks ago that I'm pregnant (currently only 6 weeks). Anyways I did a little research to see what I was doing to my baby. The list included miscarriages, premature birth,  and sids.
I fully understand being addicted to something and feeling stressed and hopeless without it, but I honestly would not be able to forgive myself if my actions caused harm to my baby. When I found out I threw my cigarettes and razors away. I have not had either since then and it can be really rough, but I'd rather have my baby healthy than have a cigarette.
Not everyone can quit cold turkey but speak to your doctor and they should be able to help you.

I was a smoker.. I quit cold turkey after a week of finding out I was pregnant.. It honestly made me sick to the point I could finish it. And I started not being able to handle the smell as well! So I just stopped and haven't picked one back up I was 5 weeks when I quit I'm now 38+1. Dr say not to quit cold turkey so I told her and she said it was fine because that was my body way of weening me off I guess. So I would go ahead and talk to your ob. And at least try to cut back, that will at least help some!

My doctor is going to put me on medication that is going to help me to quit. You should ask your doctor.  I know about the guilt youre talking about. I wish I had never started smoking.
