I bought a beautiful cradle today but it does not have a mattress/pad

I'd ask them at the baby shop because there are guidelines around safe sleeping for mattresses. I know one of them was that the mattress needs to fit snuggly in the cradle so no gaps.
Like a bassinet? They make bassinet pads and mattresses specifically. You should look online to see what stores carry them.
