difference between canadians and americans

I came across this on a previous post I posted in regarding to ultrasounds. I forgot that the health care is so different. Do Americans have to pay their o.b to deliver the baby? What else would you have to pay for? So curious !

You all should move to cananda !!!
Holy smokes!
I don't pay for my ob, meds, or the hospital.
The only thing I'd pay for is a private room and that's only $250. Regular rooms sometimes can be with 2 other moms so its not the greatest but still. If you have a smooth sailing delivery, your in and out. I never realized how thankful I should be to live in cananda.

Well i have private insurance and all my ob visits are covered and ultrasounds with no copays but i have to pay 20% of total bill and my dr office said it was about $9000 total for my c section, thankfully i ended up getting the pregnancy medicaid to cover that 20%... But that doesnt include all the extras the hospital will bill u for. When my son was in the nicu in 2010 for a week on absolutely no meds or anything it was 40,000... Just because he was born big... The dr knew he was on medicaid so y not keep him there for monitoring... Such bullcrap

When I had my daughter in 2010, I was 14 I saw the bill but had medicaid. I had a natural no meds delivery stayed in the hospital for about 30 hours (didn't spend the night a second night) and it was around 5,500 here in Alaska.

I have private insurance, I pay $0 at my regular doctor visits & $55 when I have an ultrasound. I usually don't have to pay for my tests - like my original pap, quad screening, etc, but I've seen the bills for them and they're like 350-800/test. When I deliver it will either be free OR a $500 copay for having a hospital stay, we haven't verified yet. They're changing our Medicaid/CHIP rules on October 1st and more American families/people will qualify than ever, which will be incredibly helpful for uninsured mamas.. these assistance programs usually cover everythi

For a natural birth with no extras(no meds, and just 48 hrs stay) is around 4500 but it varys from state to state, and birth with meds can range from 6500-9000 and a c-section  can be 12,000+ but if you have insurance you usually pay nothing but like 1/3 for a copay or if you are on government assistance you pay nothing

Yeah we pretty much pay for everything one way or another and people that work hard and make "too much money"instead of sitting at home not doing anything are in my opinion going to get screwed by the new law that will fine you if you don't have insurance which you might not have enough money to have. The full Bill for my daughter was $169,000 and that was in 2008

I was able to get Medicaid for both of my pregnancies but I got to see the bill first for my csection with my son and it was over $15,000 but luckily since I have Medicaid they pay it all

Most states offer welfare which is free state insurance to those that qualify.

Its just horrible.
Its like paying the government just to have your baby here. What happenes to those that just cannot afford it like teen moms? (Yeah I watched 16& pregnant) but they never show that on tv.

Holy crap!  Excuse my language but that ridiculous !
I don't understand why they don't change the health care in the states. It must be nothing but stress and worry for you. I had a minor pregnancy scare only because I didn't feel my baby as much as two days ago and I rushed my self to the hosp it al for reassurance. I couldn't imagine being that much in debt just to take care of my health. I'm alreafy worried if my lil one will have everything and that's not even includi ng the bills you guys have to face.

I was in the hospital 3 weeks ago for about 2 hrs getting hcg level and ultrasound done insurance had not kicked in yet Btw.  My bill was $3, 345 . I was like OMG imagine actual labor. If you qualify for Medi-cal it's all paid for. It's a low income type insurance.

I have full healthcare but in California each dr. Visit for me is around 300$ if I had to pay cash. And i go once a week now im full term. For a natural birth you'd have to pay your ob a lot im guessing a few thousand. And for the hospital I stay in (a very very nice one) its about 5.500 a night so on average you'll stay two nights for a normal birth. If its a c section the prices would be crazy. Im guessing 25+ thousand just for the surgery and anaesthesia. My husband didn't have insurance and when his gallbladder was removed his hospital bill was 39,000$. I want Canadian healthcare!! It should all be paid for :)

Yeah if you don't have insurance you pay for it all. And even with insurance you can end up paying a portion.
